Microsoft Word: The Basics

Do you need to type documents for work or personal use? The Maud Marks Library will be offering a Basic Microsoft Word Class in the computer lab on January 2 at 10 AM and 7 PM. This class is a basic introduction to Microsoft Word. Learn how to use the tool bar and create a word document. So come on by the Maud Marks Library on Tuesday, January 2 at 10 AM and 7 PM and start typing word documents in no time!

Library Closing Dates and Time Changes for the Holidays

There will be some changes in the library's hours for the upcoming holidays. While our physical location will be closed you can still return items in the book drop just to the left of our entrance. You can also - always - check out great books, movies and music through our eMedia catalogs.

We've got Overdrive that's great for audiobooks and ebooks, Oneclick for many of your musical needs and we even have streaming movies available through Kanopy. There's even some great additional offerings for kids through our Tumblebooks Library, some of them interactive.

Outsmart the Scammers & Don't Get Nailed!

Are you in the process of rebuilding and don’t know who to hire? The Maud Marks Library can help with that! On Saturday, December 16 at 10 AM, Leslie Corley of Edward Jones and Candice Twyman from the Better Business Bureau will be here to help make sure we don’t get taken by those out there looking to make an easy buck. Learn how to spot certain red flags that may indicate a fraudulent encounter, resources you can turn to in the event you or a loved one is targeted, and steps you can take now to help protect yourself and your loved ones. Also, learn how to find a reputable repairman and more about current home improvement scams. Don’t let disaster hit twice! Learn how to protect yourself from those trying to take advantage of Hurricane Harvey.

Santa's Ranch and Open House

 Yeehaw! Merry Christmas!

Lots of FUN planned at the Maud Marks Library for school early dismissal day this Friday, Dec. 15, 2017. From 1-4:30 pm there will be ongoing activities to celebrate the Christmas holidays.  A life-size Candyland game, facepainting, a petting zoo with miniature horses, crafts at Santa's Workshop, and Santa Claus himself will be here. Gingerbread men cookies are waiting to be decorated, as you listen to live music, so come out and have some fun at our Santa's Ranch and Open House.  

Sunset Storytime Tuesday, December 5th at Maud Marks

No Ghost Under My BedBring the entire family out to our bedtime storytime on Tuesday, December 5th at 6:30 pm. Children are welcome to wear their pajamas. We will have stories, songs and rhymes for the whole family. The Sunset Storytime theme this week is penguins!

eBooks For Everyone!

Tired of carrying those heavy library books from place to place? Do you wish that you could just check out books from the convenience of your own home? Well, you are in luck! The Maud Marks Library will be offering an eBooks class this Saturday, December 9 at 2:30 PM in the computer lab. In this class you will learn what an eBook is and the services the Harris County Public Library offers for them.

Please bring your mobile device and we'll show how to find and download eBooks and/or audio books. Please bring your library card. If you don't have a device you can practice on ours. So come on by this Saturday to the Maud Marks Library, and become an eBook reader!

Advanced Microsoft PowerPoint

Are you interested in getting more out of your Microsoft PowerPoint program?  Maud Marks Library has the class for you!  On Saturdays, December 2 at 1 PM, and December 9 and 16 at 10 AM, Mr. Uday Chittal will be going beyond the basics of how to use Microsoft PowerPoint.  Really learn the intricacies of this program.  This is a three part class.  Participants should be able to come to all three classes.  Basic keyboard and mouse skills are required.  Seating for this is extremely limited. Be Thankful and GIve

  What do you have to be thankful for? Your health, your family, a roof over your head, food on the table, shoes on your feet? This is a time of year to be thankful for all we have. It is also a time to reach out and help others who may not be as fortunate as we are, and after Harvey that population has increased significantly. If you want to help a family in need by donating a toy for Christmas, please bring a new unwrapped toy to the Maud Marks Library to help put a smile on a little one's face for Christmas. The Toys for Tots Toy Drive runs through Dec. 14, 2017.  

Share Your Holidays Food Drive at Maud Marks

Share Your Holidays Food Drive PosterOn Friday, December 8th, from 6am to 6 pm, the Maud Marks Branch will be accepting non perishable food donations for Channel 13’s annual “Share Your Holidays” Food Drive. The library has participated every year since it opened in 1993. All food donated will be distributed by Katy Christian Ministries and benefit families in the Katy area. Other drop off locations include Bagel Cafe, Katy Budget Books, HCPL's Katy Branch Library, Fort Bend's Cinco Ranch Library, KISD's Taylor High School, KISD's Memorial Parkway Junior High, KISD's Hayes Elementary, and Katy Christian Ministires.
