Hulu. Sling. Netflix, A la carte TV. These names are popping up more and more when it comes to in-home TV viewing. Want to get the lowdown on the current trend sweeping American homes? Want to know how easy can be to ditch the cable and take control of what channels and content you get? Want to learn how to CUT THE CORD?

The Maud Smith Marks Branch Library will be offering a new class geared towards getting patrons up to date on the latest streaming TV services and technology. Our CUT THE CORD class will cover what services off and what you need to get started. Come join us and learn the basics of A la Carte TV and streaming.

Friends of the Maud Marks Library Book Sale

 February has been a very busy month here at the Maud Marks Library. You may have noticed a few changes, but before we head on into March, don't foget the Friends Book Sale next Saturday, Feb. 24, 2018, from 10 am- 4 pm. This monthly book sale benefits the library in many ways, including our summer reading program. Lots of books and DVDs available to purchase at rock bottom prices. You might just find something you haven't been able to find. 

Reading= Hope X Change

It's Black History Month and the Maud Marks Library always likes to celebrate with style!  Join us this Saturday beginning at 1 PM as we discover why Reading= Hope X Change.  We will start the day off with readings, background music, traditional African American foods, and crafts.  Crafts include African masks, Black Panther masks, Wrinkle in Time Clocks, African American Bingo, Brain Teasers, and more!  Then, at 3 PM, join us as trombonist Kendall Moore and his jazz quartet invoke the Harlem Renaissance and the jazz craze that swept the world.

We'll see you for all the fun this Saturday at 1 PM!

Excelling at Microsoft Excel!

Are you looking for a great way to organize all your data at work or home? The Maud Marks Library will be offering a computer class on the basics of Microsoft Excel on Feb. 3 at 10 AM or Feb. 20 at 7 PM in the computer lab. This class will feature how to use the basic features and terms of Microsoft Excel. You will learn the parts of the Excel screen and how to enter data using formulas by practicing with spreadsheets. So come on by the Maud Marks Library, Feb. 3 at 10 AM or Feb. 20 at 7 PM to become a Microsoft Excel pro!

Upcoming Computer Classes

Wanting to learn how to use your computer and it's programs more effectively? Technology got your brain tied up in knots? Feel like the technology superhighway is passing you by? The Maud Smith Marks Branch wants to help! We are offering free computer classes to the public each and every month. This February we will be running a full slate of classes ranging including Computer 101, Microsoft Excel and Word, Internet, iPhone, iPad and many more! Classes run each Tuesday and Saturday. Free Tax Help

 It's that time of year again when you are either expecting a refund or owing some money. The AARP tax preparers will be at the Maud Marks Library to provide free tax assistance for the elderly and low income individuals. They will be available on a first come first serve basis on Mondays and Fridays from 10 am - 2 pm beginning Monday, Feb.2, 2018 through Monday, April 16, 2018. NASA Day @ My Library

 Do you have an astronomer in the family?  Have you ever wondered what it would be like to be an astronaut and actually spend time in space?  At the Maud Marks Library, we have TWO space related programs coming up over the next week to feed your inner scientist!

First up, on Tuesday, January 30 at 6:30 PM, astronomers of all ages are invited to come See the Stars!  The Astronomy Society at hthe University of Houston will be here to teach us all about stars and other things you might see in our local sky.  They will even be bringing telecopes with them so you can seee for yourself what the stars and planets look like.

Book Sale Time

   It's the first book sale of the new year sponsored by the Friends of the Maud Marks Library. Find some great bargains on Saturday, Jan. 27, 2018, as you browse a room filled with books of all kinds. There are hardbacks and paperbacks, fiction and non-fiction, for both adults and children; including DVDs, audiobooks, and magazines. All the proceeds benefit the library and its programs. Doors open at 10 am and close at 4pm. See you there!
