Celebrate African American Culture

School gets out early on Friday, February 15 and we have a treat for you!  Between 2-4 PM, we will be celebrating the contributions of African Americans to our wonderfully diverse culture.  We start at 2 PM with a storytime for the whole family.  Then at 3 PM, a presentation by Main Street Theater, "Speak of Me as I Am".  We'll experience the great African American Shakespearean actors of yesteryear.  This is an interactive family friendly preformance proving that Shakespear is indeed for ALL!
We will also have crafts, food, and quizzes as we learn more about Africa and the culture those early slaves brought with them.

Tax Season Has Arrived

The tax forms have arrived at the Maud Marks Library and they are very confusing!  Don't worry though, help is on the way!  AARP starts their income tax assistance program this Friday, February 1 at 10 AM at the Maud Marks Library.  AARP specializes in helping elderly and low-income individuals with their taxes but really anyone with returns that are not super complicated can take advantage of this service.  They will be here every Friday and Monday until April 15 from 10 AM to 2 PM.  They work on a first come, first served basis.  Please bring your ID, social security cards for all family members, and last years tax return.  We will see you Friday morning!

"...all you need is a book."

"You can find magic wherever you look. Sit back and relax, all you need is a book."  Dr. Seuss.

I read this quote today and thought about how easy it is for us to experience a little magic. The Maud Marks Library is open late two nights a week until 9 pm, and on Saturdays 10-5 pm, to accommodate those who work during the week. Check out our website for our complete hours, and experience all we have to offer. Access our catalog and shop from home, check out e-books, e-audio books, streaming music and movies, as well as search our databases for research and learning. We even have magazines available for viewing.  These are all available from home on our website at www.hcpl.net and with a Harris County Public Library card. Visit the library, a place where "all you need is a book" to find magic.
