Happy Thanksgiving!!

The Maud Marks Library wishes a Happy Thanksgiving to Katy and West Houston!  We just wanted to remind you that the library will be closing tomorrow, Wednesday, November 21 at 5 PM.  Don't forget to come in before that to get your movies, audio CDs, music, and books for the long holiday weekend.  We will open again on Monday, November 26 at 1 PM as usual.

Meanwhile, if you can't make it in before the holiday starts, don't forget our digital collection.  We have plenty of eBooks, eAudios, magazines, movies, and more available through our online databases.  Check them out here.

"...all you need is a book."

"You can find magic wherever you look. Sit back and relax, all you need is a book."  Dr. Seuss.

I read this quote today and thought about how easy it is for us to experience a little magic. The Maud Marks Library is open late two nights a week until 9 pm, and on Saturdays 10-5 pm, to accommodate those who work during the week. Check out our website for our complete hours, and experience all we have to offer. Access our catalog and shop from home, check out e-books, e-audio books, streaming music and movies, as well as search our databases for research and learning. We even have magazines available for viewing.  These are all available from home on our website at www.hcpl.net and with a Harris County Public Library card. Visit the library, a place where "all you need is a book" to find magic.

Horror Rocks!

Have you participated in our summer reading genre challenge yet?  This week we are focusing on Horror.

Why read horror? These tales feature nightmares come to life, complete with the monsters -- human, inhuman, and psychological -- that inhabit readers' worst fears. As in nightmares, surprise is a key element. Some horror tales begin in a fairly normal world, suddenly and disastrously invaded by monsters, and lead to a horrific climax The key to horror is that although the evil may be beaten down, it is never destroyed completely.  It lurks just beneath the surface, waiting to emerge again.
