Faithful Paws at North Channel

Faithful PawsWe had a great turn out at today's Faithful Paws program. Join us next month on March 18th for another furry good time.
Faithful Paws is an organization that brings dogs who love to hear kids read to them! This monthly dog therapy program is for new and struggling readers to help build reading confidence and cuddle a new pal at the same time! Join us every third Saturday of the month at 2 PM in the Children's Area. 

*Date change in April due to Easter Holiday. Faithful Paws will be at the library on April 8 at 2:00 PM

Teddy Bear with ChocoaltesTeens and tweens, make use of our leftover Valentine candy tomorrow afternoon.  Join us in the meeting room, Wednesday, Feb. 14th, at 4:30 pm and create edible works of art or edible architecture.  Okay, we may even eat some of it.

Toddler Time Valentine Party Rescheduled

Valentine PartyHAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY from the North Channel Staff.
Due to inclement weather, the Toddler Time Valentine Party will be rescheduled for next Tuesday, Feb. 21st.  Story time will take place as normal. Please contact the library at 281-457-1631 for any questions or concerns. Please stay safe. XOXOXO

Project Peep Begins @ N. Channel!

Project Peep begins Wednesday, February 15 here at North Channel Branch! That afternoon, you can  start viewing at least twenty eggs that will be incubating here at the Front Desk for approximately twenty-one days until they hatch...After that time, local foster families will be brooding them at home for a few weeks, but don't worry, we'll keep a couple of chicks here so you can keep observing their growth until Saturday, March 25. Please call the library at (281) 457-1631 for information about supplemental programs such as "Life Cycles" and "Eggs and More Eggs" for ages 6-12 years. Project Peep is a unique animal science program brought to Harris County Libraries through a grant provided by the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) and Texas State Library and Archives Commission (TSLAC).

Our popular "Ask A Lawyer" program will be held this Saturday, February 11th from 11 am - 12:30 pm..  This free legal clinic is presented by Angela D. Johnson, Attorney at Law.  Ms. Johnson will be answering legal questions and addressing issues that are important to the community.  Please join us for a chance for some free legal guidance.

Valentine Craft at North Channel

Valentine CraftValentine's Day is one week away and we're celebrating with an afterschool craft on Wednesday, February 8th. You will get to make your own take home bag that you can use to collect all your special Valentines. (All materials will be provided.)

Monday Movie Madness!!

Angry Birds MovieTHE ANGRY BIRDS MOVIE is flying into our Public Meeting Room on Monday, February 6, 2017 at 4:30 PM. Bring your pillows, blankets, and snacks with you to watch this fun action/adventure movie on our big screen. (No tickets required.)

Book Sale This Weekend

book saleLooking to stock up on some books?  Come shop at the Friends of the North Channel Library Book Sale! The book sale will be this Friday, February 3rd and Saturday, February 4th during the library's open hours.  All proceeds from the sale go directly to the North Channel Library to fund various library needs, such as summer performers, books and other items.  Don't miss our book sale this weekend!

Teen varietyTeens and tweens, you are invited to join North Channel Library's Teen Advisory Group.  Be the Young Adult voice at your library.  You can help plan, prepare, and present teen programs.  You’ll meet new people, attend fun programs, develop leadership skills, work as a team, and earn volunteer hours.  Our next meeting will be Wednesday, February 1st at 4:30 pm. We will be create bio-poems inspired by African- American poets, such as Langston Hughes and Maya Angelou.   Share ideas for programs that you want to see here at the library.

AARP Free Tax Assistance Begins February 2

It’s tax time again and that means it’s time to welcome back AARP to the North Channel Library starting February 2nd.  AARP will be offering free tax assistance every Thursday from 12pm to 4pm From February 2nd through April 13th. Sign-up begins at 10am Thursday mornings only.  Please bring your tax return from last year as well as your W-2's and other papers for this year. Visit the AARP website for more information about AARP Tax Aide. ***This year there is a limit of fifteen registrants per week.
