Design, Make, and Take: Team Logos

Team LogoDo you like the logos for the Houston Texans, or the Astros, or Rockets team? Have you ever wanted to make your own design to call your own? Teens and Tweens, ages 10 and up (5th grade or higher), join us today in the public meeting room at 4:30 PM for a Team Logo program. Create your own design and turn it into a button you can wear to all the upcoming Teen Summer Reading Competition Programs.

Science Magic Show

Be astounded by Julian Franklin's Simple Machines Science Magic Show this Wednesday, June 7 at 2:30pm! "Work Smarter, Not Harder" is the theme of the show, which is for ages 4 and up in the Children's Area. Summer LEGO Display @ N.Channel

Summer Reading kicks off Monday, June 5! Be sure to sign-up online then at http://www.hcpl.net/ and view our Build A Better World themed display in the lobby, generously provided by TexLUG-Houston/Texas LEGO Users Group. It  features various construction and architectural scenes and structures from around the world, including Houston! Can you spot the superheros and villians? There's Batman, WonderWoman, and even Harlequin...Summer Reading Fun is available for all age groups including babies, children, teens, and adults & there are cool prizes for all!

Tween Time: Origami Fortunes

At Tween Time this Wednesday, May 31 at 4:30pm we'll be celebrating Asian Pacific Heritage Month by making our own Paper Fortune Cookies! Join the fun and try your hand at a variety of colorful origami animals as well... Tween Time is a monthly program, on the last Wednesday of the month, for ages 9-12 years where socialization is encouraged in a casual setting through crafts, science, art activities and occasional movies. SUMMER READING PROGRAM 2017

SRP 2017Our 2017 Summer Reading Program will begin next week, Monday, June 5th. This year our theme is Build a Better World, and North Channel will offer programming and fun for all ages. Stop by the front desk and pick up a calendar of events for the whole summer, or check the Online Calendar for all North Channel Events.
Yellow Calendar is for Children's Programming, recommended for 0 - 11 years old.
Orange Calendar is for Teen Programming, recommended for 12 - 18 years old.

Royal Storytime

CrownJoin us at Preschool Storytime this Tuesday, May 23, at 1:30 PM with special guest Kendra Willis, Ms. Wheelchair Texas 2017.  We will listen to stories, songs, and rhymes about Princesses, Knights, and Dragons with a short craft to follow. This will be a Royal Storytime so Royal attire is encouraged (princess dresses, or knight armour). 
Preschool Storytime is a year-round program every Tuesday at 1:30 PM and recommended for children ages 3-6 years.

Faithful Paws at the Library this Saturday

faithful pawsIt's time for another visit from our favorite furry friends-Faithful Paws!  Faithful Paws is an organization that brings dogs who love to hear kids read to them!  Help build reading confidence and cuddle a new pal at the same time!  Join Faithful Paws this Saturday,  May 20th from 2 pm to 3 pm.

Cherry BlossomsTeens and tweens! Celebrate Asian Pacific Heritage Month with North Channel this May.  On Wednesday, May 17th, we will be watching a movie directed by Hayao Miyazaki. Teens will get to vote on which one we will watch.  Bring a snack and a blanket if you like.  Swing by North Channel at 4:30 pm and enjoy the movie.

Asian Pacific Heritage Kid's Craft

Celebrate Asian Pacific Heritage Month at the library by making  your own Vietnamese Fire-breathing Dragon this Wednesday, May 10 at 4:30pm! The festivities will be held in the Public Meeting Room where you can reward your hard work with a sampling of candies and treats from a variety of Asian countries. Our monthly kid's crafts are recomended for ages 4 and up and all materials are supplied. For more information or groups please contact North Channel Branch at (281) 457-1631.

Miyazaki Inspired Display

MiyazakiMay is Asian Pacific American Heritage Month. To celebrate, North Channel has a front lobby display of Miyazaki inspired art. Hayao Miyazaki is a Japanese film director, animator, and manga artist. A popular title of Miyazaki is My Neighbor Totoro which tells the adventure of two girls and their interaction with forest spirits.
