Babies Love Books

It is time to get your baby off to a great start this summer at the library.  Sign them up for their first summer reading program to earn a free board book and certificate. We will have special guests Little Gym and Gymboree Play and Music this summer. We have a Baby Giggles class for children birth to 11 months, Babiesgeared for babies not yet walking. It meets every Wednesday at 1:00 pm for 45 minutes.

PRACTICE SAT/ACT

Take the SAT or ACT before you take it! The Princeton Review is offering a practice exam at the library. Exams will be graded and scores released at a later time. The SAT will be held June 17 from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm, and the ACT held July 15 from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm.

In the online age that we live in, having a professional website is an absolute necessity for nearly all career choices and business ventures. A great website can simultaneously operate as a marketing tool, a store platform, a display of works and skills, a communication channel and as an engine for branding. Saturday Dinosaurs Rock

Dinosaurs RockSaturday, June 10th at 2:00 pm we will have Dinosaurs Rock.  Do you love dinosuars?  Come to the library and learn about incredible, museum quality fossils and minerals that you can actually see up close and touch. Each child will get a geode to break and take home.  This program is for ages 5-11 and is limited to the first 40.  Get a ticket 30 minutes early at the desk. Also, remember to sign up for the summer reading program and earn great prizes!

Commit for Life Blood Drive at Northwest Branch Library

Want to help save a life? Then come and donate blood with the Northwest Branch on Friday, June 16th from 10:30 to 3pm! Northwest is partnering with the Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center to hold a blood drive! Be sure to Eat, Drink and Have ID before coming! All those who donate and credit KPRC will receive a commemorative Commit for Life T-shirt! Visit www.giveblood.org or call 1(888) 482-5663 to schedule your donation, walk ins are welcome.

Make a Fairy Garden House

Fairy GardenJoin us for an art adventure; discover an artist or new art style and the materials used to create it. Friday, June 9th at 2:00 pm we will make fairy garden homes. First, listen to the story Thumbelina then, make your own fairy garden house.  Bring bits of nature like twigs, pinecones, acorn tops and leaves to add.  We will have buttons, foam and fabric flowers, gems and paint to help make your fairies house special. Tickets are issued beginning 30 minutes in advanced.  This program is for kids ages 5-11 and is limited to the first 30.  After the program at 4:00pm we will be showing Strange Magic from the mind of George Lucus.  It is rated PG.

Closed in Observance of Memorial Day

The Northwest Branch Library will be closed Monday, May 29th in observance  of Memorial Day. The library will resume normal operating hours at 10:00a am on Tuesday, May 30th. Memorial Day commemorates the men and women who died while in the military service.   A national moment of remembrance takes place at 3:00 p.m. local time.

Volunteer instructors are needed to teach English as a Second Language (ESL) classes, citizenship, and adult literacy in our community.  Training and materials are provided along with flexible scheduling.
