S.C.O.R.E.S. Workshop - Funding Sources: Simple Steps, November 10th at 3:30 pm

Another quality small business workshop c/o SCORES. Financing your business is one of the most important issues facing small businesses today. Learn about the various sources of funds in the marketplace, the best place to start, what the lenders look for when reviewing a funding application and the key ingredients for success when borrowing money. The workshop will also cover sources of equity and how to use equity as an alternative to borrowing funds.

Thanksgiving Holiday Hours

The Northwest Branch Library Thanksgiving Holiday hours are:

  • Wednesday, November 22nd, close at 5:00pm
  • Thursday, November 23rd, closed
  • Friday, November 24th, closed
  • Saturday, November 25th, closed

The Northwest Branch Library will resume normal operating hours on Monday, November 27th, the branch will be open for business at 1:00pm. In the meantime, materials can be returned to this location via the after hours drop box, which is located to the left of the entrance doors. Customers will have access to to Overdrive, databases, and the other electronic resources during the holiday closure. Have a happy and safe Thanksgiving. 

Houston Museum of Natural Science Native Americans Docent Presentation

Come and celebrate National Native American Heritage Month with Northwest Branch Library and the Houston Museum of Natural Science. Saturday, November 11th at 3:00 PM join a docent from the museum and discover the inventive and resourceful lifestyles of North America's earilest human residents.  Come to see real museum artifacts and specimens!  The 45-minute session is a hands-on interactive experience.  This program is for children 7-12 years old.  Space is limited, so get a free ticket at the desk 30 minutes before the program starts.

High-5 Club

Watermelon SeedSaturday, November 11th at 1:00 PM join the High Five Science Club presented by the University of Houston Be a Teacher Club to learn about plants. We will be reading the book The Watermelon Seed. The kids will be creating mini greenhouses out of plastic cups and planting a plant inside. Their take-home activity will be growing grass seeds in different shaped sponges. They will also each get to take home a copy of the book that we are reading that day. Come to the desk 30 minutes before the program to get a free ticket. Space is limited.  For ages 1st-3rd grade.

Make a Difference in Your Community!

Volunteer instructors are needed to teach English as a Second Language (ESL) classes, citizenship, and adult literacy in our community.  Training and materials are provided along with flexible scheduling. Halloween Hoopla

halloweenThis Saturday, October 28th from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm join us for some spooky fun and halloweengames at Halloween Hoopla!  Come in costume and play Pin the Nose on the Pumpkin, Swamp Fishing, Graveyard Golf, Spider Ring Toss, Monster Photo Area, Treat or Treat Toss, Dem Bones, Bats and Ghosty Crafts. Go Trick or Treat around the library at the bookdrop and front desk for some goodies.  This party is for all ages. We are accepting treat donations. Meccano Build for Teens!

Every other Saturday, we're building with Meccano! Ages 12 and up can come into our meeting room from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM and build Meccasaur, a walking, roaring dinosaur. Construction is expected to take several weeks, but the doors are always open to newcomers who want to try it for themselves. Meccano focuses more on the physical builidng of the robot, and interested teens and twees can work together to build up their dinosaur from scratch. You'll also get to see past builds from our library, and see how they function. Upcoming dates are: October 21, November 4, and November 18.

WINTER COATS, CLOTHES AND HOLIDAY CHEER! We're back to school and the kids have grown again. Shed outgrown coats for new sizes or styles.Exchange long sleeves and accessories to keep out the chill. Prepare for fall and the winter holidays by swapping out decor.
