Make A Valentine's Day Card [All Ages] - Monday, February 12 to Wednesday, February 14

 

Make your own Valentine's Day card for your sweetheart in the Library.

Just behind the Reference Desk will be supplies to make your V-Day cards. 

Supplies will be available during our open hours from February 12th through February 14th. 

Magic: The Gathering Gameplay [8+] - Saturday, February 10 from 2-4 PM

 

Magic: The Gathering is a dueling card game from Wizards of the Coast.

It incorporates strategy, mythical lore, and competitive-community play.

Join us on February 10th on the Library Floor for game play from 2-4 PM. For those who would like to learn how to play, a staff member will be present to teach you.

Lunar New Year Celebration [All Ages] - Saturday, February 10 from 11:30 AM - 1 PM

The Parker Williams Branch Library in partnership with the Parker Williams Friends of the Library and our Vietnamese Language Learning Community is proud to host our annual Lunar New Year Celebration.

On February 10th from 11:30 to 1 PM, we will be having a variety of activities including folklore of how the Lunar New Year came about, games, a craft, and a variety of food.

Please join us as we celebrate the beginning of the Year of the Dog!

What better way to spread your distain then giving out some Anti-Valentines.

Make some Anti-Valentine’s with us on February 9th at 4 PM in the Library Community Room as we watch The DUFF and observe the destruction of the typical high school social structure.   

Find plants that are Texas Superstars

Learn about Texas A&M AgriLife’s Texas Superstar Plants program, which provides information about a variety of plants you can grow in Texas, from annuals and perennials to vegetables and fruit trees. Paul Winski, County Extension Agent in the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension program, will help you learn more about this resource and answer other questions about gardening in our area on Saturday, February 10 at 10:30 a.m. The Texas Superstar Plants program selects plants that have been proven to grow well here and are considered attractive for various reasons (such as ornamental value or providing fruit) by horticulturists and consumers.

Community Craft – Mardi Gras Masks [All Ages] - Thursday, February 8 at 4 PM

 

 

To get you ready for Mardi Gras on February 13, we are throwing our own Fat Thursday celebration.

Join us on February 8th at 4 PM in the library community room to make your own Mardi Gras mask to be ready for the big day.

Learn about a new Great Decisions discussion group

Learn about a new Great Decisions discussions series here at the Parker Williams branch. We will meet eight times this year (once per month with a few breaks) to discuss the most critical global issues facing America today. Visit for an overview of how discussions work and pick up a briefing book developed by the Foreign Policy Association on Wednesday, January 31, at 6:30 p.m. The first discussion will be in February. STEM Time – The Plant Doctor [7+] - Wednesday, February 7 at 5 PM

George Washington Carver, also known as The Plant Doctor, was an African American botanist and inventor with an affinity for peanuts.

Join us on February 7th at 5 PM in the Library Community Room as we present a spotlight on the life, achievements, and accomplishments of George Washington Carver.

After the presentation, we will make some homemade peanut butter.

For those with a peanut allergy, please make arrangements with the librarian ahead of the program for any accommodations.

Microsoft Word is one of the most used programs in the world.

It is a word processing application that can do a lot of simple or crazy things.

Join Mr. John in the Computer Lab on January 31st at 5 PM for a basic introduction into the world of Word.
