Community Craft – Thanksgiving and Fall November 16th@ 4 PM [7+]

Getting into the Thanksgiving turkey mood, the Parker Williams Branch will be hosting a Fall-Thanksgiving Community Craft on November 16th from 4PM to 5 PM in the Library Community Room.

The children will be making a stained glass turkey to show off to the relatives.

Adults will be making a festive, fall leaf bowl that could be your new centerpiece.   

Basic Life Skills – Situational Awareness November 15th @ 5 PM [12+]

When you leave your house, do you scan your neighborhood?

Can you spot a stranger?

How do you know if they are following you?

These aren’t super spy skills. They are basic principles of situational awareness.

Join us at 5 PM on November 15th in the Library Community Room to learn some basic strategies of keeping situationally aware and safe in the world.

The History of the Bolo Tie November 11th @ 10:30 AM [6+]

What is a Bolo Tie? Who wears them?

Leslie Eaton from the Houston Rodeo Speaker’s Committee will be coming to the Parker Williams Branch to talk about the history of the Bolo Tie with a variety of different examples for kids to pursue.

Kids will be able to make their own FREE Lego Bolo Tie.

Join us in ESL Room 1 on November 11th at 10:30 to learn the History of the Bolo Tie. Registration is required. 

STEM Time – Science Fair Exploration November 8th @ 5 PM [8+]

Do you and your student have to do the dreaded science fair?

Have no ideas of what to do?

Join Mr. John in the Library Community Room on November 8th at 5 PM to explore the different resources and books available through the library to not only complete the science fair project but have fun too. 

Introduction to Magic: The Gathering November 10th @ 4-6 PM and November 21st @ 2-4 PM [8+]

Magic: The Gathering is a dueling card game from Wizards of the Coast. It incorporates strategy, mythical lore, and competitive-community play.

International Games Day @ 2-4 PM [All Ages]

In cooperation with International Games Day, the Parker Williams Branch will be hosting a variety of board, card, and tablet video games on Saturday, November 4th from 2-4 PM on the main floor of the library.

Staff will be available for an Introduction to Magic: The Gathering to anyone who is interested in learning.

Dia De Los Muertos Sugar Skull Decorating November 2nd @ 4:00-5:30 PM [All Ages]

 

 

Dia De Los Muertos is a family holiday for gathering and remembering family and friends that have past.

In the spirit of this holiday, we ask that you and your family to gather with us on November 2nd from 4:30-5:30 in the Library Community Room to decorate a Sugar Skull and share some of your favorite memories.

The Amazing Brain: What Neuroscience Research Says About Raising Children in the iPhone Era

Cell phones, the internet and social media are woven into almost everyone's daily life nowadays. Join us on Tuesday, November 7 at 10:30 a.m. to learn what affect these technologies may be having on us, especially on children who grow up with them. Our speaker will be Curtis Neveu, PhD from the UT Health Science Center at Houston/McGovern Medical School. Dr. Neveu will give some background about the neuroscience of the developing brain and also talk about how iPhones, internet, and social media affect development. Children are welcome to come too. Due to Hurricane Harvey arriving on August 26th, we never got to view My Hero Academia.

Since it is such an awesome series, we are dedicating the time to view it.
