Family Fun Nights in July

Want to do something fun with your family but you get home late? Don’t fret! The Parker Williams Branch Library has you covered! Join us in the Library Community Room at 7 PM on a variety of Wednesdays throughout the summer so you don’t miss out on the summer fun. 

Wednesday, July 11th at 7 PM – Family Fun Night – Water Safety with the US Coast Guard Auxiliary [5+]
For those who don’t want to rock the boat, we will be having a family water safety presentation by the US Coast Guard Auxiliary. 

Science in July

Tuesday, July 10th at 10:30 PM – Science Explorers – Magnets [5+]

Looking for some science for your little guys and gals? Science Explorers is a science programs for kids 5 and up to explore basic scientific principles. Come on down to the Parker Williams Branch Library on Tuesday, July 10th at 10:30 AM. This month, we will be exploring the fascinating world of magnets.

 Wednesday, July 18th at 5 PM – STEM Time -- Sound Vibrations [8+]

Not only do libraries rock, but science does too. Learn the science behind sound vibrations. Join us in the Library Community Room on Wednesday, July 18th at 5 PM to learn about sound vibration, sound waves, and much more. 

Community Craft – Design-A-Flip-Flop [7+] - Friday, July 13th at 4 PM

 

 

Summer is the time of year where everyone shows off their fancy sandals.

Join us inside in the Library Community Room at 4 PM on Friday, July 13th at 4 PM at the Parker Williams Branch to design your own pair of flip-flop.

Flip-flops and materials are generously provided by the Parker Williams Friends of the Library.    

Wednesday Programs in July

In observation of the 4th of July, the Library will be closed on Wednesday, July 4th. We will be open on Thursday, July 5th at 10 AM. 

Every Wednesday in the Library Community Room at 2:30 PM throughout the summer, the Parker Williams Branch Library will be having a special guest put together either a fun show or an amazing learning experience.

Wednesday, July 11th at 2:30 PM – Program Summer – Puppet Pizzazz Extravaganza [5+]

 Join us this week for Puppet Pizzazz Extravaganza! Greg Ruhe is a world renowned puppeteer that will be sharing his puppets and stories with us. 

Drone Flying Club - 2nd and 4th Monday from 5-6 PM

 

The South Belt Ellington area has always been an innovative location for the expansion of aerospace.

With a grant from the Parker Williams and Harris County Friends of the Library, we have been able to purchase the equipment to begin our own drown flying club.

If you have ever wanted to learn how to fly a quadcopter, you can learn right here at the Parker Williams Branch Library on the second and fourth Monday from 5 PM to 6 PM. 

July Musical Movies on Tuesdays at 2:00 PM

This summer, our theme is Libraries Rock! Join us for a musical movie on Tuesdays throughout the summer at 2 PM in the Library Community Room. Our movie this Tuesday is Sing. And please remember, singing along isn’t just allowed, it’s encouraged!

Gaming – Fortnite Tournament [8+] - Friday, July 6th at 4 - 6 PM

For all those solo and team players, we will be hosting our version of a Fortnite Tournament where the last two players stay on and the other six players rotate off. This will be happening on Friday, July 6th from 4 to 6 PM in the computer lab. If you have USB Xbox One or PS4 controller, you can bring it and hook into our computer as long as it has the USB cord attached (or USB wireless charging cord). 

Magic: The Gathering Gameplay [8+]

Magic: The Gathering is a dueling card game from Wizards of the Coast.

It incorporates strategy, mythical lore, and competitive-community play.

Join us on the first and third Mondays from 6PM -7:30PM and the second and forth Saturday from 4PM – 6PM on the Library Floor for a few hours of game play.

For those who would like to learn how to play, a staff member will be present to teach you.

PS3—Street Fighter IV Tournament (T) [13+] – Friday, June 29th from 3 PM – 5 PM

Join us on Friday, June 29th from 3 PM to 5 PM for our Street Fighter IV Tournament (T) on PS3 in the Library Community Room.

Winner stays on, Losers rotate off.

Join us at the Parker Williams Branch on Monday, June 25th at 3 PM in the Library Community Room to pick up our spirits while creating some of our own Super Heroes like Cowboy Wolverine or Robot Aqua Space Man-Guy.
