Basic Life Skills – Pet Care and Adoption June 26th @ 3 PM [13+]

For National Cat Adoption month, we are going to learn some of the skills necessary to take care of your pets.

How do I adopt a pet? What pet should I get? What do I need for a puppy or kitty? How do you make sure you don’t have a fat cat or chubby puppy? What are some common ailments?

Hoopla for streaming movies and media

Have you used Hoopla before? It is one of the resources we offer on our website for downloading or streaming movies, music, audiobooks, comics and books using your computer, phone or tablet. Depending on your TV, you can also cast movies from your phone to your TV. Drop by on Tuesday, July 20 to learn how to use Hoopla on your device.

STEM Time – The Design/Prototype Process June 19th @ 5 PM [8+]

 

Have you ever wondered why there are different versions and editions of technology and other inventions?

In the “Build a Better World” spirit, we will be exploring the design process used in the development and prototyping phases of creating a new invention.

Help us invent something new on June 19th at 5 PM in the Library Community Room.

HCPHES Mobile Pet Adoption June 17th @ 3 PM [All Ages]

The Harris County Public Health and Environmental Services Mobile Adoption Unit will be coming to the Parker Williams Branch on Saturday, June 17th from 11:30 AM to 3 PM.

You can come over and visit with the dogs, cats, puppies, and kittens that they have available for adoption. For any questions about adoption requirements, please contact the Veterinary Public Health Division at (281) 999-3191.

If you have any questions about dog and cat food, training, or other products, representatives from our local Petco will be available to answer any questions.

Community Craft – Cars (PG, 116 min) Drive-In June 16th @ 3 PM [10+]

 

 

In conjunction with the release of Cars 3, we will be hosting a Drive-In showing of the original Cars (PG, 116 min) at 3PM in the Library Community Room.

There will be cardboard, markers, and other materials available to make your own car.

Join us for the movie, car construction, and refreshments at the Parker Williams Branch. Refreshments will be provided by the Parker Williams Branch Friends of the Library.

Our book discussion this month takes place on Tuesday, June 27 at 2 p.m. We are reading Truth Be Told by Hank Phillippi Ryan. Stop by and pick up a copy!

Funding sources for small businesses

If funds for startup costs or expansion is an important issue, join us for "Coins Under a Couch Cushion," a free program led SCORE counselor Mo Tehrani, Ph.D. Learn about sources of funds in the marketplace, the best place to start, what the lenders look for when reviewing a funding application, and the key ingredients for success when borrowing money. The workshop will also cover sources of equity and how to use equity as an alternative to borrowing funds.

Thursdays at 3 PM the Parker Williams Library will be hosting a variety of different things for teens to do. Each week was a different idea planned from our Parker WIlliams Teen Leadership group to make the summer less boring.

June 8 – Teen Thursday – Engineering Challenge [13+]
What can you build with tin foil, dental floss, and paper? Find out and test your engineering skills. Join us for our first Teen Thursday program in the Library Community Room at 3 PM on June 8th. This the first challenge on the path to Building a Better World.

June 12 -Teen DIY and a Movie – Batman (PG-13) and 8-Bit Batman @ 3 PM [13+]

Wanting to use more clean energy? Learn about what's new in solar panels and in the marketplace as well as factors to consider if you are considering setting them up for your home. Presented by the Houston Renewable Energy Group, a non-profit organization for renewable energy enthusiasts, engineers, architects, specialists, system designers and users. Wednesdays at 2:30 PM the Parker Williams Branch Library will be hosting a variety of different programs in our Library Community Room throughout the nine week Summer Reading Program.

 

 

 

 

June 7 – Tin Foil Towers [7+]

We’ll be grabbing this year’s Summer Reading Program by the STEM with a little lesson in architecture. Learn the fundamentals of building towers and skyscrapers as we build our own tin foil towers. Participants will be put into teams and compete for the most sturdy and the tallest tower. Join us in the Library Community Room at 2:30 PM on Wednesday, June 7th.
