Creating a Resume

Do you need help creating a resume to use during your job search? Adults are invited to our free Resume Class on Monday, August 6 at 5:30 PM where participants will be able to create a basic resume. Please bring previous job employment dates, names, as well as job duties and descriptions which will be used to create a new resume or update your existing resume. It is recommended to bring your e-mail information or a USB drive to e-mail or save your resume.

E-Summer Reading for Kids and Teens

Are your kids and teens searching for titles to read for school, or for recommended reading for their grade levels? Our e-book service through OverDrive and Libby has e-books and e-audiobooks for kids and teens that are categorized by grade level and include books on lists such as the Bluebonnet, Lone Star and the Tayshas.

If your kids are searching for something to read, check out our e-books at https://hcpl.overdrive.com/ and select Collections>Kids or Collections>Teens. You can also download the OverDrive or Libby app and log in with your Harris County Public Library card to check out e-materials.

Microsoft Publisher Basics

Do you want to learn how to create a flyer or business cards? The South Houston Branch Library will be having a Microsoft Publisher Basics class next Tuesday, July 31 @ 10:30 AM. Adults are invited to join us to learn how to use Microsoft Publisher and to create items such as flyers, invitations, and more. Computer classes are free and no registration is required.

Adult Movie Mania: La La Land

Adults are invited to join us this Friday, July 20 at 3:00 PM for our Adult Movie Mania program. Come and enjoy the movie musical La La Land, a 2016 American musical romantic comedy film starring Ryan Gosling as a jazz pianist and Emma Stone as an aspiring actress, who meet and fall in love in Los Angeles while pursuing their dreams.

Learning Express Library: GED Practice Tests

Did you know that Harris County Public Library provides free access to the Learning Express Library database? This database has GED practice tests available in the areas of Language Arts, Mathematical Reasoning, Science, and Social Studies, and includes a GED en Español section as well. Adults are invited to join us this Saturday, July 14 @ 1:30 PM to learn how to access this valuable resource with a library card.

Snap Circuits

Join us Wednesday, July 11, 2018 @ 3 pm for an exciting and fun way to introduce children to hands-on designing and building models of working electrical circuits. The innovative kits will allow children to build exciting projects such as flying saucer, alarms, doorbells, and much more! This program is recommended for children ages 8 to 17. Space is Limited. Musical Chairs

Join us Monday, July 2, 2018 @ 3 pm for a classical game of musical chairs!  Children ages 5 to 13 can have a fun time playing in this game of elimination involving players, chairs and music, with one fewer chair than players. Summer Blood Drive

The South Houston Public Library in conjunction with the Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center will be hosting a community blood drive on Monday, June 25, 2018 from 2pm to 6:30 pm. Houston Ballet presents: Sleeping Beauty Spanish Ballet

Does your child or a child you know love ballet? Children ages 4 to 13 are invited to come and join the Houston Ballet as they present the Spanish Ballet Sleeping Beauty this Monday, June 18 at 3:00 PM. This program will be a one-hour storytelling experience that introduces students to the art form of ballet. This educational program guides them through the plot of a Sleeping Beauty ballet by sharing abbreviated video clips of a Houston Ballet production. The interactive hands-on experience will include costumes, props and pointe shoes for students to examine.

Kids Cafe- Free Lunch For Children Ages 1-18

Starting Monday, June 11, 2018 from 12:30 pm to 1:30 pm Monday- Friday, the South Houston Branch Library will be serving FREE Lunch to children ages 1-18 years of age. New this year, the parent or guardian accompanying the child(ren) can also enjoy a healthy meal. No ID required.  Meals will be provided by the Houston Food Bank Summer Food Service Program.
