Cookie Cutter Bird Feeders

Join us on Thursday, August 10, 2017 @ 3pm for this fun and easy craft!  Children between the ages of 6 and 12 will be provided all the materials to make a birdfeeder ornament in a variety of cookie cutter shapes!  Then they can take it home and hang it from any tree to attract and feed different types of birds!  No registration is required. Mad Science: Fire & Ice Show

Join us on Thursday, July 27, 2017 from 3- 4 pm for a spectacular Fire & Ice Show presented by Mad Science! Children will be dazzled as they explore physical and chemical changes throughout the show.  They will be able to witness the wonders of air pressure and an indoor firework show!  For the finale, they will end with a huge bubbling potion using their Special Mad Science Ice. Healthy Hip-Hop Show

Join us on Thursday, July 20, 2017 from 4pm- 5pm in the park adjacent to the library. Houston Healthy Hip-Hop & Fly Dance Company will be here to present the new "Healthy Hip-Hop Show”. The talented, comical dancers of FLY invite you to experience the world of Hip Hop in a non-stop, fast-action, fun for all ages show. The all-male group is youthful, masculine, risk-taking, acrobatic,funky, and fun—who act as well as dance! Through various skits the students will be informed on how leading a healthy, active lifestyle will improve everyday activities. Then the fun begins as we share some history of the Hip Hop culture, including its origins and inspirations. Program is recommended for children of all ages.

South Houston Library Community Blood Drive

The South Houston Public Library in conjunction with the Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center will be hosting a community blood drive on Monday, July 10, 2017 from 2pm to 6:30 pm. Conversational English Classes Starting Soon!/ ¡Clases de Conversacion de Inglés Proximamente!

The South Houston Branch Library will soon be offering FREE Conversational English Classes!  Classes start Saturday, July 8, 2017 at 10:30 am for 12 weeks.  Come practice your English skills every Saturday for 2 hours.  Registration is required. Ms. Monkey's Show

Join us on Wednesday, June 21, 2017 @ 3 pm  to monkey around with Sasha, Cody & Darwin. They're three of the friendliest, most loving trained Capuchin monkeys. They will be here to entertain the children and will be available after the program to take pictures! No registration is required to attend, Space is Limited so please arrive early. Recycling Robot Contest

The theme for our Summer Reading Program this year is "Build a Better World!" Join us on Thursday, June 15, 2017 @ 3 pm and do your part by participating in this fun, team building, creative activity.  This contest is a great way for teens to create something out of items such as bottles, cans, cardboard, etc that would ordinarily go into the recycling box or the landfill.  Prior registration is required in person at the library or by phone at 713-941-2385.  Participants must be between the ages of 12 to 17 years of age.  Teams of 4 will be created on the day of the contest and will be allowed a maximum of 1.5 hours to create their robot.

Free Lunch For Children Ages 1-18

Starting Tuesday, June 6, 2017 from 12:30 pm to 1:30 pm on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays the South Houston Branch Library will be serving FREE Lunch to children ages 1-18 years of age.  Meals will be provided by the Houston Food Bank Summer Food Service Program. Día (Día de los niños/libros) Celebration

El día de los niños/El día de los libros (Children's Day/Book Day), commonly known as Día, is a celebration every day of children, families, and reading that culminates yearly on April 30. The celebration emphasizes the importance of literacy for children of all linguistic and cultural backgrounds. Join us on Thursday, April 27,  2017@ 4:30 pm for a fun celebration!
