iPads for Kids: ABCmouse

ABCmouse is a computer-based program for young children that helps them learn to read through phonics, and also provides lessons in math, social studies, art, music, and more. Harris County Public Library provides free access to ABCMouse at all branches. Children ages 5-8 are invited to come and explore the world of ABCMouse with iPads at the South Houston Branch Library on Thursday, June 14 at 3:00 PM

Adult Movie Mania "Grease"

Come have a fun time at the movies without having to buy a ticket tomorrow at our Adult Movie Mania! This Friday June 8th at 3:00 PM adults are invited to enjoy the movie musical Grease, a 1978 old time favorite romantic comedy film based on the musical of the same name.

Nutty Scientist Show This Thursday

Calling all Scientists! If you are ready to have fun with science, then the Nutty Scientist show is for you. Kids ages 5-13 are invited to attend the Nutty Scientist Castaway show this Thursday, June 7, at 3:00 PM, where they will explore incredible experiments and will have a chance to volunteer as "brave assistants" during the program. Summer Reading Program Software Presentation

Are you excited for Harris County Public Library's Summer Reading Program? This summer's theme is Libraries Rock! and the program will begin on June 4th. Throughout the summer we will be having many activities for all ages, as well as fun prizes participants can receive for reading. We will be having two presentations that will show you how to log your books and minutes read using our Summer Reading Program software in order to help you become familiar with the program. We invite all ages to attend our Summer Reading Program Software Presentation next Thursday May 31 at 5:00 PM, or in Spanish on Wednesday May 30 at 5:00 PM. We will provide information on how to create your account and record your reading and activities to get points for your prizes.

El Cinco de Mayo, ​ fecha de la conmemoración de la Batalla de Puebla, marca la primera vez que el ejército mexicano pudo derrotar a una potencia extranjera mejor preparada, en este caso los franceses. El 3 de mayo de 2018 a las 4:30 PM los invitamos a participar en  esta divertida manualidad en la que  niños de 6 a 13 años podrán crear su propia maceta de cactus utilizando globos. Todos los materiales serán proporcionados por el grupo de amigos de la biblioteca.

E-Mail Basics Computer Class

Perhaps you have an e-mail account but haven't used it in some time, or maybe you have never had an e-mail account before but would like to begin to receive mail electronically. If you are interested in getting an e-mail account and becoming familiarized with how to use your account to keep in touch with family members and friends, we invite you to our free E-Mail Basics computer class next Tuesday, May 1 @ 10:30 am. No registration is required, and you don't have to have an existing e-mail to participate. 

Children's Day / Book Day "DIY Hardcover Book"

Children's Day/Book Day (El día de los niños/El día de los libros) takes place on April 30th and celebrates children, families, reading, and the importance of literacy. School-age children are invited to join us to celebrate this important day by personalizing their own hardcover book with a variety of craft and decoration materials. Our DIY Hardcover Book program will take place next Wednesday April 25 at 4:30 PM and all materials will be provided.

Theater Sketches for Teens

The South Houston Branch Library will be having a Theater Sketches program for teens ages 12 and older who are interested in theater and have a passion for acting. No experience is required! Teens will have fun challenging their acting skills while at the same time exploring literature. Registration is required and is open until Wednesday April 11th, and the program is Thursday, April 12 at 4:30 pm.

Graphic Novel Book Club

If you like comics and graphic novels then you won't want to miss out on the book club starting at South Houston Branch Library in April. Tweens ages 8 to 13 are invited to join our Tween Graphic Novel Club, where we will discuss and take part in fun activities related to different Graphic Novel titles. This is a three session program that starts on Thursday, April 5 at 5:00 PM. Space is limited and registration is required. Please call the library at 832-927-5530 to sign up.
