Coffee & Crochet

Do you like to crochet or would you like to learn? Adults are invited to join us for Coffee & Crochet next week on Thursday, March 28th at 10:30 a.m. Have fun working on a project or get started on making chains with yarn and needles.

All materials are provided by the Friends of the South Houston Branch Library.

Teen Pokémon Terrarium

Teens ages 12 and up are invited to enjoy a Pokémon craft this Wednesday, March 20th at 4:30 p.m. Teens can come and make a small terrarium habitat in a jar for a small Pokémon to live in.

All supplies are provided courtesy of the Friends of the South Houston Library.

 

Free Immunizations

The Harris Health System Troubleshooters Unit will be offering FREE immunizations for children ages 0-18 years old next Thursday, March 14th, from 10:00am to 2:00pm here at the South Houston Branch Library. Please bring immunization record. No appointment is necessary, but immunizations are first come, first served.

Read Across America

Read Across America is an event which takes place in March and celebrates reading and literacy. Children are invited to our Read Across America program on Monday, March 4th at 4:00 pm. Participants will be able to play games, choose a free book to take home, and enjoy a slice of delicious cake. 

Thank you to Panaderia Tierra Caliente for the generous donation of a cake for our celebration.

 

 

Mancala Strategy Game

February is African American History Month, and we invite children ages 6 and up to come to the library and discover the ancient strategy and counting game Mancala. Mancala describes several strategy and counting games which originated in Africa more than a thousand years ago. Mancala games are some of the oldest strategy games and are played all over the world. During this program, participants will learn how to play a version of Mancala on both a physical wooden board and a digital application. Join us on Monday, February 18 at 4:30 pm to learn about Mancala.

Teen No-Sew Pillow

Teens ages 12 and up are invited to a fun Valentine's Day craft activity on Wednesday, February 6 @ 4:30 pm. Come by and create a heart-shaped pillow perfect for Valentine's Day. All materials are provided by the Friends of the South Houston Library.

Baby Time & Story Time every Tuesday

The South Houston Branch Library has Baby Time for infants 0-24 months every Tuesday @ 10:15 am, as well as Story Time for children ages 2-4 every Tuesday @ 4:30 pm. Join us for songs, rhymes, fingerplays, stories, and bubbles every Tuesday. 

Movie Mania: The House with a Clock in Its Walls

Join us next Monday, January 14 at 4:30 pm for Movie Mania and enjoy watching the fun fantasy film "The House with a Clock in Its Walls." In this movie based on the book by John Bellairs, a young orphan is initiated into a world of magic and mayhem by his eccentric warlock uncle and a matronly neighbor who happens to be an altruistic witch. He uses his newfound magical abilities to help them defeat the forces of evil that threaten to destroy his new home. All ages are welcome.
