Live Music, After Hours: Da Camera at Spring Branch Memorial Library

Harris County Public Library and Da Camera will be sending African American History Month 2018 out on a high note! 

On Wednesday, February 28, when Spring Branch Memorial Library closes for the evening, it will transform into live music performance space. In this one night only, after hours program presented by Da Camera, artist Sam Dinkins III will tell the stories of musical styles: Bembe', Spirituals, Blues, Jazz, Soul, Reggae and R & B through song and narration (and a splash of poetry).

Country Club: Nigeria

Join our library “Country Club” and we will “visit” a different country each month to sample food, language, culture, games and more! This month we will celebrate African American History Month and stamp our passports in Nigeria.

 

This program is for grades 1-5 and kindergartners with an adult.

Creative Corner

It’s electric! We will be experimenting with Snap Circuits to create working electronic circuits and devices.

This program is for grades 1-5 and Kindergartners with an adult.
Snap circuits are recommended for ages 8+ and additional parent help may be needed with younger children.

Cooks and Books

Trek the Galaxy: NASA Event for Families

AstronautWant to visit the moon? Map the stars? Explore space technology? Cook like an astronaut? Then visit the Spring Branch-Memorial Library’s Trek the Galaxy NASA event! This come-and-go event will feature activity stations for space explorers. Activities are geared for ages 5 to 9, but all space explorers are welcome.

Teens! New CSS Coding Classes Start Soon!

CSSThe Spring Branch-Memorial Library is offering new coding lessons for teens, grades 6-12!  Teens will learn how to code with CSS, which is used to add design elements to websites created with HTML.  No prior coding experience is needed, since the first class will offer an overview of HTML. The program will last eight sessions.

Teens are asked to bring in a Windows laptop with Notepad and a browser, if possible. We will also provide laptops for teens to use.

Dates: Tuesdays beginning February 6
February 6,  February 13, February 20, March 6, March 20, April 3, April 10, April 17

Time: 4 p.m. to 5 p.m.
