Book Buddies

Book Buddies

Are you in 7th – 12th grades? Do you want to be a mentor? Do you need service hours? Then volunteer to be a Big Buddy!

Or, do you have a child in Kindergarten – 3rd grades? Do you want to help them develop a love of reading? Then apply for your child to be a Little Buddy!

Harris County Public Library's Book Buddies program pairs trained teen volunteers (Big Buddies) with children in Kindergarten through 3rd grades (Little Buddies). For 10 weeks, the Buddies meet once a week for 45 minutes of shared reading.

This next session will run from February to May 2018 at Spring Branch Memorial Library (930 Corbindale Rd, Houston, TX 77024). You will meet once a week on Monday from 4:30 PM to 5:15 PM to read with your Buddy.

If interested, stop by Spring Branch-Memorial Library to pick up an application to be a Big Buddy or a Little Buddy!

Spring Branch-Memorial Library--The Page Turners

NightingaleTitle to be discussed: The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah.  Date of meeting, January 9, 6:30 p.m.  Summary: "France, 1939. In the quiet village of Carriveau, Vianne Mauriac says goodbye to her husband, Antoine, as he heads for the Front. She doesn't believe that the Nazis will invade France... but invade they do. When a German captain requisitions Vianne's home, she and her daughter must live with the enemy or lose everything. Vianne's sister, Isabelle, is a rebellious eighteen-year-old girl, searching for purpose with all the reckless passion of youth. She meets Gäetan, a partisan who believes the French can fight the Nazis from within France, and she falls in love as only the young can...completely. But when he betrays her, Isabelle joins the Resistance and never looks back, risking her life to save others. 'The Nightingale' tells the stories of two sisters, separated by years and experience, by ideals, passion and circumstance, each embarking on her own dangerous path toward survival, love, and freedom in war-torn France; a heartbreakingly beautiful novel that celebrates the resilience of the human spirit and the durability of women."
