Do you like to build things and know how they work? We will be making working flashlights using household items and LED lights with our friends from Idea Lab Kids.

Meet Author Dave Roman

Dave RomanHave you ever wondered what it takes to write and draw books? On Thursday, May 4, from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m., our library will welcome Dave Roman, author and illustrator of the Astronaut Academy series for a program and book signing.  If you would like an authographed copy, bring your own Astronaut Academy book or purchase one at the library that day.

The program is recommended for grades 2 and up.

Free Comic Book Day

WowSave the date!  On Saturday, May 6, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., we will be hosting a comic book day.

The schedule of events is as follows:

1:15 p.m. -- Costume Parade

1:45 p.m. -- Trivia Contest

2:30 p.m. -- Superhero Games and Crafts

3:30 p.m. -- Superhero Screening and Popcorn

All Day: Games and Free Comic Books (Limited number per person; while supplies last)

Comic book fans of all ages are invited!

The program is designed to explore the importance of eating breakfast, promote modeling good nutrition, and offering and discussing healthful food choices.

All classes are scheduled for Thursdays from 3:30 pm to 5:00 pm.  One-on-one sessions are 30 minutes each.

Country Club: Australia

Join our Country Club and each month we will “visit” a different country to taste the food, play the games, explore the language and culture. In April we will stamp our passports in Australia, mate!

Snow childTitle to be discussed: The snow child by Eowyn Ivey.  Date of meeting: Tuesday, May 9, 6:30 p.m.  Summary: "Alaska, 1920: a brutal place to homestead, and especially tough for recent arrivals Jack and Mabel. Childless, they are drifting apart--he, breaking under the weight of the work of the farm; she, crumbling from loneliness and despair. In a moment of levity during the season's first snowfall, they build a child out of snow. The next morning the snow child is gone--but they glimpse a young, blonde-haired girl running through the trees. This little girl, who calls herself Faina, seems to be a child of the woods. She hunts with a red fox at her side, skims lightly across the snow, and somehow survives alone in the Alaskan wilderness. As Jack and Mabel struggle to understand this child who could have stepped from the pages of a fairy tale, they come to love her as their own daughter. But in this beautiful, violent place things are rarely as they appear, and what they eventually learn about Faina will transform all of them."
