Exercise Your Disbelief With Science Fiction

Summer is back in full swing at the Maud Marks Library and with it, our ever popular genre challenge!

This week we are highlighting the Science Fiction genre.  Science Fiction is speculative fiction and raises controversial questions in worlds based on plausible scientific theories. Traditionally it posits future worlds and technologies, but settings in the past, rich in future technologies, have grown in popularity. No matter the time and setting, science supported by known scientific principles drive the stories.

The best of the best, when it comes to science fiction, win the Nebula Award.

Reader Nation 2011 1st Place Grand Prize Winner

College student Teresa Yeh is the 1st place grand prize winner for Harris County Public Library’s Adult Summer Reading Program 2011.  As the grand prize winner, Teresa took home $200 in gift cards for, which she plans to spend on textbooks.  Teresa has participated in the summer reading program since she was a kid, so she just automatically entered this year without giving much thought to potential prizes, but she did remember to log her books.  Teresa said that she really likes using the library’s digital media catalog, and most of the books she read over the summer were eBooks.

We Have a Winner!

Congratulations to Misty Dowdell, the Kingwood Branch winner of the 2009 Adult Summer Reading Program. Her name was drawn at random from the Kingwood Branch SRP participants.
