Butterflies are FREE!

In observance of City of Houston’s Citizenship Month, we had butterflies here at Baldwin Boettcher Branch.

Our painted lady butterflies have emerged a few days ago and we have released them today into the beautiful Mercer Gardens.

Their wings opened up beautifully in the sun and they left to explore the world freely.

Look Who's Here!!

Our butterflies are finally here! come stop by at the Galena Park Branch and say hello to our new friends. These amazing little creatures decided to come out of their Chrysalis today! We will be releasing them into the wild this Saturday at 11 am. Everyone is welcome to come help us release them and say farewell.

Butterflies & Poetry for Citizenship Month

Some folks think of butterflies as dainty creatures. Butterflies are anything but dainty. Monarchs, for example, make a yearly round trip between southern Mexico and locales as far north as Maine & Minnesota. When you combine that kind of toughness, with their amazing transformation from caterpillars and their tremendous variety—some 20,000 species—Butterflies are the perfect symbol for the City of Houston’s Citizenship Month. This month long initiative includes hundreds of activities around the greater Houston to celebrate the area's tremendous diversity.

Butterflies in Progress!

To celebrate Citizenship Month, each branch at HCPL was given caterpillars to watch transform into butterflies.

Come meet Twitchy, Benvolio, Mercutio, Fred Jr and all of their friends!

Then make a beautiful origami butterfly to decorate the Stratford Library.
