All of us here at Maud Marks are so thankful for our wonderful customers! What a great year we have had so far. Thank you all for your patience and understanding during our migration to our new system last week. We know that it was a bit frustrating but you all "hung in there" with us! Just a reminder that we close at 5 pm. next Wednesday, November 25 and will be closed Thursday through Sunday, November 26-29 for the Thanksgiving holiday. We wish everyone a great Thanksgiving with family, friends and food. Come back and see us Monday, November 30.
The Aldine Library had a Halloween-themed children's event on the evening of Monday, October 26th- a pumpkin carving party! Kids, parents, and babies enjoyed sculpting, carving, & decorating pumpkins in the Meeting Room. A good time was had by all.
Did you know that October is National Cookie Month? Now would be a great time to fire up the oven, dig out your favorite recipe and bake up some cookies for yourself or a friend! There are so many yummy cookies. What is your favorite? Chocolate Chip? Snicker doodles? Whoopi Pies? Rice Krispy Squares? There are too many to list. They are the perfect snack. (as long as you don't eat the whole batch at once!!)Here are a few cookie facts. Did you know that cookie cutters date back to the 1700's and were brought to America by the Germans and Dutch? The Chocolate Chip cookie is the official state cookie of both Massachusetts and Pennsylvania. I wonder if they hand out free cookies at the border? America spends over $550 million a year on Oreos! So have a cookie! Or two or three this month to celebrate! I know I will. And be sure to come into the library and check out our large cook book section. We have some great cook books with wonderful recipes to help you create some new cookies to add to your collection or to spruce up an old favorite. And by the way, October is also National Pizza month! But that is a whole other blog.
The heat wave has diminished, kids are back in school, and football season is around the corner. Autumn is approaching. Stay tuned to our Aldine branch library online calendar for the latest on upcoming events during the months of September and October. A Fall Festival for kids, free haircuts for children, and some tasty treats for adults are on the horizon. Don't miss out.
If you were at the Aldine Library on Wednesday afternoon of this week then you no doubt heard saw a plethora of bubbles floating about and surely heard an infectious bass beat that made you want to move. Bubble Parties Texas was on site for music, fun, and lots of bubbles! Kids grooved to the beat and also enjoyed participating in a Hula Hoop contest, a Limbo contest, and Mambo dance line around the library. Great fun for everyone!
