Para Los Ninos MATH AT HOME

Para los Ninos  Math at Home is Tuesday, August 2, 2016 @ 10:30 AM

Math is present in our world all the time - in the workplace, in our homes and in our community. Math is in your life from the time you wake until the time you go to sleep. You are using math each time you set your alarm, buy groceries, mix a baby's formula, keep score or time at an athletic event, wallpaper a room, decide what tennis shoes to buy, or wrap a present. You can talk about numbers and how you use them everyday. Get your children off on the right foot by showing them how YOU use numbers all day.

Summer Reading @ HCPL Starts June 6!

Harris County Public Library’s Summer Reading Program kicks off June 6 with new incentives & new ways to participate.

Harris County Public Library’s annual Summer Reading Program has never been just about reading. Summer at HCPL is about reading and all the ways it helps you engage more fully with the world around you. With that in mind, for the first time, HCPL will offer incentives not only for what you read, but for what you do, as well.

We Give Thanks

All of us here at Maud Marks are so thankful for our wonderful customers!  What a great year we have had so far.  Thank you all for your patience and understanding during our migration to our new system last week.  We know that it was a bit frustrating but you all "hung in there" with us!  Just a reminder that we close at 5 pm. next Wednesday, November 25 and will be closed Thursday through Sunday, November 26-29 for the Thanksgiving holiday.  We wish everyone a great Thanksgiving with family, friends and food.  Come back and see us Monday, November 30.

Pumpkin Carving @ Aldine Library

The Aldine Library had a Halloween-themed children's event on the evening of Monday, October 26th- a pumpkin carving party! Kids, parents, and babies enjoyed sculpting, carving, & decorating pumpkins in the Meeting Room. A good time was had by all.

Yum Yum!

Did you know that October is National Cookie Month?  Now would be a great time to fire up the oven, dig out your favorite recipe and bake up some cookies for yourself or a friend!  There are so many yummy cookies.  What is your favorite?  Chocolate Chip? Snicker doodles? Whoopi Pies? Rice Krispy Squares? There are too many to list.  They are the perfect snack.  (as long as you don't eat the whole batch at once!!)Here are a few cookie facts.  Did you know that cookie cutters date back to the 1700's and were brought to America by the Germans and Dutch?  The Chocolate Chip cookie is the official state cookie of both Massachusetts and Pennsylvania. I wonder if they hand out free cookies at the border?  America spends over $550 million a year on Oreos!  So have a cookie! Or two or three this month to celebrate! I know I will. And be sure to come into the library and check out our large cook book section.  We have some great cook books with wonderful recipes to help you create some new cookies to add to your collection or to spruce up an old favorite.  And by the way, October is also National Pizza month!  But that is a whole other blog.

So if you have been wondering what happened to all the toys you've donated to Baldwin Boettcher Library...

We gathered them all up, provided some tools:
