Children's Weekly Run-Down

CHILDREN’S WEEKLY RUN-DOWN! Love is in the air as February starts! Our first book buddies meeting is this Tuesday the 7th and you can still sign up at the Children's Reference desk. Join us this week on Thursday the 9th of February @ 4 PM for our World Tour Book Club to explore different countries and their traditions and stories.

Our Story times continue as normal! Be here for Toddler Time** on Tuesday @ 10 AM and @ 10:30 AM, Preschool Storytime on Tuesday @ 2 PM, and Infant Lapsit Storytime @ 11:15 AM on Tuesday and @ 11 AM on Thursday. We also have our Family Storytime presented on Saturday @ 10:30 where you can enjoy stories and a craft!

February Events in the Children's Department

    February has no shortage of holidays and the Children's Department has no shortage of  programs to celebrate some of those holidays.   Here's some upcoming storytimes and other programs to celebrate the shortest month of the year:

  Pajama Storytime - Thursday, February 2 at 6:00 pm.  This storytime for the whole family requires tickets.  They're given out at 5:30 pm.

Friday, February 3 at 4 pm - Tween craft for children 8-12 years old.a  Tickets given out at 3:30 pm.   Children will make a decoupage tile coaster.

Saturday, February 4 at 11:00 am - Family Storytime - another fun storytime for the whole family.  No tickets are needed for this storytime.

Hey, Chocolate Lovers!

 Registration is now open for our very first Chocolate Olympics!  Children (ages 8 - 12) can participate and have fun in easy-to-win tabletop games, challenges and relays – all involving chocolate!
This yummy program will meet on Thursday, February 9th at 5:00 pm in the Children's Area and is limited to 20 children.  Please call 832-559-4235 to register.

January Events in the Children's Department

Looking for something fun for your children to do in January?  We kick off the New Year with lots of returning programs and some new ones.   We start off this Thursday, January 5 with Pajama Storytime at 6:00 pm.  We give out tickets at 5:30 pm and children are welcome to wear pajamas or bring a cozy blanket.  On Saturday, January 7, we have Family Storytime at 11:00 am.  No tickets are needed for this program.  We'll have this program again on Saturday, January 21.   On Monday, January 9, we have the bilingual Chinese/English storytime at 10:15 am.  We'll give out tickets when we open at 10:00 am.  This fun storytime features books and activities in English and Chinese.  It is recommended for children 3-5 years old.

November Children's Programs

Here are some fun Children's Programs to attend in November:

Saturdays 11/5 & 11/19 - Family Storytime at 11:00 am - this storytime for the whole family meets in the Children's Department  on the 1st & 3rd Saturdays of the month.  No tickets are needed.

Monday 11/7 at 10:15 am - Bilingual Chinese/English Storytime - recommended for children 3-5 years old exposes children to stories & songs in Chinese & English.  Includes fun craft.  Tickets give out at 10:00 when the library opens.

Maker Mondays Program - This weekly afterschool program is for children 5-12 years old at 4:30 pm on Mondays.  It features an activity or craft (on the 4th Monday of each month).  Tickets are given out at 4:00 pm.

Pokémon Club Starts in September!

Beginning September 16, Pokémon Club will meet the 3rd Friday of every month, from 4:30 PM to 5:30 PM. This is a staff supervised program, intended for grades 2-5. Members are encouraged to bring their Pokémon cards and/or DS. Additional Pokémon related activities may be provided by the library. Snacks and drinks will also be provided.

May Activities in the Children's Department

The Children's Department has several fun programs planned to get children ready for summer fun!  Children 3 years and older can make several colorful crafts (a ladybug, a basket of flowers, and a Memorial Day star) on Thursday, May 5 at 4:30 pm.  Tickets are required.  They'll be given out at 4:00 pm.

On Friday, May 6 - babies from infants through 18 months old will enjoy Baby Playtime from 10:00-11:00 am in the Children's Activity Space.  This program does not require tickets.

On Thursday, May 12 at 4:30 pm - children 5 years and older will enjoy celebrating Asian-Pacific American Heritage Month with crafts and treats inspired by Japan.  Tickets are required.  They are free and available starting 30 minutes before the program.

April Events in the Children's Department

Here are some upcoming programs in the Children's Department in April.  We will have our regular storytimes for young children:

Book Babies - Wednesdays 10:15 and 11:15 am.  Tickets required.  They are given out 30 minutes before the program or 10:00 am for the 10:15 session.  This program is for children from infants through 18 months old.

Toddler Time - Mondays at 11:15 am and Tuesdays at 10:15 am and 11:15 am.  This program for children 18 months-3 years old.  Tickets are required and given out 30 minutes before or at 10 am for the 10:15 session.

Preschool Storytime - Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 1:30 pm.  This program is for children 3-5 years old.  Tickets are given out at 1 pm.

Fun Children's Programs to End January

Here are a few fun programs to end the first month of the year.   We continue with the weekly Maker Monday programs at 4:30 pm.  This afterschool program is for children 5-12 years old.  It features an activity or craft.  Today, children will be making a winter suncatcher.  Tickets are required.  They are free and available at the Kids Information Desk starting at 4:00 pm.

January brings more fun programs for children

Freeman children can start off the new year by attending a fun program this month.  On Mondays, we continue with Maker Monday programs for children 5-12 years old at 4:30 pm.  These weekly afterschool programs feature an activity or a craft.  On Thursday January 28, children 5-12 years old can help us get ready for Mardi Gras by decorating a shoebox float at 4:30 pm.  Tickets are required for these programs.  They are free and given out 30 minutes before the program.
