April Childrens' Events at Freeman Library

Looking for some fun things to do in April?  Here are some of the programs we will be doing in the Children"s Department.   Most programs require tickets.  They are free and available 30 minutes before the program or as soon as we open for programs at 10:15 am.

 On Friday, April 5 at 10:15 am, Bayou City Play will bring sand, cardboard boxes, pvc pipe and lots of neat items on the Diana side of the library for children 2-5 years old to have fun!

For children 5-12 years old, we have Make Monday programs on Mondays at 4:30 pm.  We'll be doing Magnetic Mosaics on 4/1, Make a Mug Cooking on 4/8, Lego Free Play on 4/15, Marble Run on 4/22 and Puzzles on 4/29.  

March Events in the Children's Department

Looking for family fun this month?  Check out some of these children's programs we have during Spring Break and beyond.

For Spring Break (also known as Books Alive! Week) we'll have the regular baby, toddler, and preschool storytimes. Marsha's Petting Zoo on Monday 3/11 at 2:30 pm; Crafta-palooza on Tuesday 3/12 at 2:00 pm; Face Painting,Balloons, and a Dino-mite costumed visitor on Wednesday 3/13 at 2:30 pm; a Block Party on Thursday, 3/14 at 2:00 pm where we'll have lots of items to build with; and Sidewalk Chalk on Friday, 3/15 at 10:30 am.  No tickets will be needed for any of these events.  Thank you to the Friends of Freeman LIbrary for supporting these programs.

Ring in January 2019 with fun programs in the Children's Department

Start the new year by visiting the Children's Department for fun and educational programs for the younger set.   In addition to our regular morning and afternoon storytimes and other programs, we will have new, weekly programs on Wedensdays and Thursdays at 4:30 pm for tweens 8-12 years old.  

Starting Wednesday, January 2 at 4:30 pm, tweens 8-12 years will enjoy the weekly STEAM Tween programs featuring engaging, hands-on STEAM activities.  Tickets are given out at 4:00 pm.  The other new program is Bluebonnet Booktalk.   This program starts Thursday, January 10 at 4:30 pm.  For January, we'll be featuring Texas Bluebonnet books on the 2018-19 list.  From February-May, the Bluebonnet Booktalk features Texas Bluebonnet nominees from the 2019-20 list.

Monday at the Little Blue Library

Today we have a lot in store for you at Baldwin Boettcher’s Little Blue Library.  At 10:30 am we have our Story Time in the Gardens.  It takes place under the Tree House and is for ages 2 to 6 years of age.  The theme this week is Birds, and it will be followed by a craft.  Then at 4 pm we will have our Watercolor Snowflake craft for ages 6 to 11 years.  It will also take place under the Tree House.  What’s better than snowflakes and watercolors?  Not much!  Let’s make watercolor snowflakes to decorate for the season.  For our adults we will have our ESL class at 6 pm taught by our beloved Cindy Groover.  It takes place at the Mercer Botanic Center.  The address is, 22540 Aldine Westfield Rd.  For more information on the location, ple

Monday at Baldwin Boettcher's Little Blue Library

Today is Monday, Dec 3rd and we have a busy day at the Little Blue Library.  We have Story Time in the Gardens at 10:30 am.  Today the theme is hibernation.  It takes place under the Tree House and is for ages 2 to 6 years.  Then at 4 pm we have DIY Snow Globes.  It is for ages 6 to 11 years and will also take place under the Tree House.  The title speaks for itself.  We will be making Snow Globes.  Come join us!  In the evening at 6 pm, we will have ESL with our beloved Cindy Groover.  It is a free class, and no registration is necessary.  It will take place at the Mercer Botanic Center.  The address is 22540 Aldine Westfield Rd.  For more information on the location, please call Cindy at 832-927-5480.  To see what programs we have coming up, please che

November Events in the Children's Department

Here's some fun programs in the Children's Department in November:

Maker Monday at 4:30 pm for children 5-12 years old.  This afterschool program features an activity or craft each week.  11/5 -Magnetic Mosaics, 11/12 - Finger Crochet; and 11/26 - Marble Run.  Tickets given out at 4:00 pm.

Pajama Storytime - Thursday 11/8 at 6:00 pm.  Evening storytime tor all ages.Includes a craft.  Tickets given out at 5:30 pm.

Baby Playtime - Friday 11/9 at 10:00 am.  No tickets needed for this outing for babies from infants through 18 months old.

September Programs in the Children's Department

It's a new school year...We have many returning programs and a few new programs for the month of September.  We kick off the month on Saturday, 9/1 with Family Storytime at 11:00 am.  No tickets are required for this program.  We will have another Family Storytime on 9/15.

Maker Monday returns on Monday, 9/10 at 4:30 pm.  This afterschool program is for children 5-12 years old.  It features an activity kit or craft each week.  We'll have pinball on 9/10, Lego Free Play on 9/17, and Magnetic Mosaics on 9/24.

Baby Playtime for infants up to 18 months old will be on Friday, 9/14 at 10:00 am.  No tickets are needed for this program.  Toddlers will enjoy their playdate on Friday, 9/28 at 10:15 am.  Tickets given out at 10:00 am.

Pajama Storytime this Thursday, August 23 @ 6:00 pm

 Looking for a fun way for the children to wear their new pajamas or slippers?  Join us this Thursday, August 23 at 6:00 pm for Pajama Storytime.  This storytime features books, songs, and a cute back-to-school craft.  Children are welcome to wear pajamas and slippers and bring a blanket or stuffed animal friend for the program.   Tickets are required,.  They're free and available at the Kids Information Desk starting at 530 pm.   Thank you to the Friends of Freeman Library for their support of this program.

Fun Children's Programs start back on Monday, August 20 at 10:15 am

The Children's Department returns to regular programs starting on Monday, August 20.  We'll have Preschool Storytime for children 3-5 years old at 10:15 am.  The Preschool Storytime also will be held on Tuesday and Wednesday at 1:30 pm.  For younger children who are walking independently and up to 2 years old, we have Baby Butterlies on Mondays at 11:15 am.   On Wednesday mornings, we have Baby Caterpillars at 10:15  & 11:15 am for newborns and babies walking with assistance.   All these programs require tickets.  They are free and available when we open for the 10:15 programs and 30 minutes before the program for the 11:15 and 1:30 pm programs.

The First Week of July @ The Little Blue Library

It is the week of The 4th of July, and we will be closed in observance of Independence Day, on Wednesday, but we still have a busy week in store for you at The Little Blue Library.   Monday is Story Time in the Gardens @ 10:30 am.  The subject this week will be Trees.  Kids Café’ will be provided Mon, Tue, Thurs, and Friday this week from noon to 1 pm.  Thursday is another wonderful teen program for 7 continents 7 instruments.  This week will be Asia.  They will be making an instrument that has existed for a thousand years.  It is a Dizi.  Friday will be another fun filled family day from 9 am to 3 pm.  Come play Pokémon Go & Geocaching.  You will see the wonderful gardens, maybe learn something new, and have a lot of fun.  Do not
