February Events in the Children's Department

    February has no shortage of holidays and the Children's Department has no shortage of  programs to celebrate some of those holidays.   Here's some upcoming storytimes and other programs to celebrate the shortest month of the year:

  Pajama Storytime - Thursday, February 2 at 6:00 pm.  This storytime for the whole family requires tickets.  They're given out at 5:30 pm.

Friday, February 3 at 4 pm - Tween craft for children 8-12 years old.a  Tickets given out at 3:30 pm.   Children will make a decoupage tile coaster.

Saturday, February 4 at 11:00 am - Family Storytime - another fun storytime for the whole family.  No tickets are needed for this storytime.

Celebrate Chinese New Year with a Lion Dance on Saturday, January 21 at 2:00 pm

Celebrate Chinese New Year with a Lion Dance on this Saturday, January 21 @ 2:00 pm.  Check out this amazing combination of stamina and dexterity as several dancers dressed in huge costumes perform to traditional Chinese instruments.   This fun family outing lasts about 30 minutes and requires no tickets.  It will be held in the parking lot of the Diana Lane side of the library.

Family Storytime on Saturday, January 21 @ 11:00 am

Our next Family Storytime will be held this Saturday, January 21 at 11:00 am.  Children and their families are invited to hear funny stories and songs in the Children's Department.  No tickets are needed for this family outing that lasts about 30 minutes.  This program is held on the 1st and 3rd Saturdays of the month.

LEGO Robotics Camp returns in February

The LEGO Robotics Camp returns to Freeman for four Saturdays starting February 11.  This free camp is held in the Children's Activity Space.  It is recommended for children 7-11 years old.  The children learn engineering and robotics concepts as well as cooperation and teamwork.   .

Homeschoolers: Texas Bluebonnet Voting on Thursday, January 19 at Freeman

Homeschoolers who are 3rd-6th grade age can vote for their favorite 2016-17 Texas Bluebonnet book this Thursday, January 19 at Freeman Library.   We'll have a ballot and ballot box so that children can vote for their favorite Bluebonnet nominee just like other children will be doing in Texas schools.   The balloting will be available from 1 pm when we open through 9 pm on Thursday.

Winter Crafts Fun on Thursday, January 19 @ 4:30 pm

Children 3-12 years old can celebrate winter with several fun crafts on this Thursday, January 19 at 4:30 pm.  We'll be making a paper snow globe, a cute penguin, and a colorful picture frame to display a favorite photo.  Tickets are required.  They are free and available in the Children's Department starting at 4 pm.  Thank you to the Friends of Freeman Library for supporting this program and many others throughout the year.

Baby Playtime on Friday, January 13 at 10:00 AM

Babies and their grownups are invited to hang out on this Friday morning, January 13 at 10:00 am, for another fun Baby Playtime program!  This monthly program is recommended for babies from infants through 18 months old.   There are board books, manipulative toys, music, and bubbles!  To kick off a new year, we will have an art project where the children can put their handprint on a calendar page that will have the upcoming Baby Playtime dates already marked.  This program is free and no tickets are needed.   Thank you to the Friends of Freeman Library for contributing funds to buy many of the fun and colorful books and toys as well as an ample supply of bubbles for each session.

January Events in the Children's Department

Looking for something fun for your children to do in January?  We kick off the New Year with lots of returning programs and some new ones.   We start off this Thursday, January 5 with Pajama Storytime at 6:00 pm.  We give out tickets at 5:30 pm and children are welcome to wear pajamas or bring a cozy blanket.  On Saturday, January 7, we have Family Storytime at 11:00 am.  No tickets are needed for this program.  We'll have this program again on Saturday, January 21.   On Monday, January 9, we have the bilingual Chinese/English storytime at 10:15 am.  We'll give out tickets when we open at 10:00 am.  This fun storytime features books and activities in English and Chinese.  It is recommended for children 3-5 years old.
