Columbus Day

Movie and Popcorn Monday

OH NO! –you just realized Monday, October 14th is Columbus day – a school holiday!   What are you going to do with the kids?   Before you panic you should know that the library is not only open, we are also offering a free movie complete with popcorn, courtesy of the Friends of Maud Marks Library.  The movie (we can’t print the movie title online) is an animated family adventure.   The story takes place on another planet in another time. A thousand  years ago a  mysterious crystal was damaged by one of the Urskeks and an age of chaos began!  Characters include an  evil race of grotesque birdlike lizards  ( Skeksis)  and  gnomish dragons who rule their fantastic planet with an iron claw....

Today in history...

October 12, 1492 was the day that a sailor on the Pinta sighted land. It wasn't until 1792 that we have a record of the United States celebrating Columbus Day. The celebration was organized by the Society of St. Tammany, also known as the Columbian Order, to commemorate the 300th anniversary of Columbus' landing.
