War Dogs

Military animals have been used in various wars and conquests throughout time. Alexander the Great made use of elephants. War pigeons were popular in WWII to ferry messages across enemy lines. And, of course, horses have been used in both ancient and modern warfare.

Dogs have also seen their share of war combat over time. Ancient Greek writings tell of their presence in various conflicts. Many countries still use canines today in both combat and peacetime missions.

Read about a few modern military dogs and their handlers in these gripping accounts:

Dog Detective Rules!

“Stakeouts: I’ve sat through a million.”    This line is from Dog on It, a mystery I am really enjoying. How can you not like a book narrated by a street smart dog? This is a fast-paced story, told from the dog’s point of view and features the adventures of Chet the dog and his owner Bernie, a private investigator who’s often down on his luck.
The lines are classic canine: “She wore a robe and had curlers in her hair and some green stuff smeared all over her face… Oops. I caught myself growling. Very bad, but she was scary.”

Unforgettable Animals

Anyone who has ever owned a pet understands how easily the cuddly critters nose their way into heart and home.  If you enjoy reading stories about animals and their human caretakers, these titles may be just what you're after:
