“Better luck next year!” she mused when, at the end of last summer, she discovered that she hadn’t won any HCPL Summer Reading Program prizes. Better luck indeed: LSC-Tomball Community Library customer Brandi Henri’s name was randomly drawn as one of the e-reader winners in this year’s Summer Reading Program prize draw. The Harris County Friends Council awarded her with a Kindle Paperwhite. She is delighted that she won’t have to borrow her husband’s iPad anymore; now she has an e-reader of her own—which ironically, we presented to her on her wedding anniversary. Good fortune all round.
Brandi and her 3 year old daughter, Olivia, are prolific readers. They were thrilled that during one visit to the library this summer they hit the 75-item HCPL checkout ceiling. Brandi keeps track of what she reads on Goodreads and checks their book ratings for recommendations. Her personal summer favorites? The Fault in Our Stars by John Green, There’s No Place Like Here by Cecelia Ahern, and Elizabeth Joy Arnold’s The Book of Secrets.
Our Tomball branch prize, a $30 Amazon.com gift card, was won by Carolyn Austin of Lufkin, TX. Ms. Austin has a personal tie with this library branch in that her daughter Jennifer is one of the librarians here. Her summer favorite was The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins.
