Career Night

Our first night will be Wednesday, 4/06 starting at 4:30pm with a Basic Microsoft Word class - a necessity for creating a good resume. Then, at 6:00pm a visiting speaker will feature resume techniques to help you stand out in the crowd. Join us for one or both sessions.

Join Us for the Harris County Job & Career Fair, Sept. 10 at NRG Center!

Anyone who has ever been unemployed or underemployed will tell you that looking for a job is very hard work. Harris County and HCPL want to make your search a little easier. Join us for the Harris County Job & Career Fair at NRG Center on Thursday, September 10, 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. You will have the opportunity to meet with hiring managers and representatives from many Harris County departments, including HCPL, as well as from other organizations such as the Texas Workforce Commission, Harris Health Systems, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Rehabilitation & Employment Services and the Metropolitan Transit Authority.

Whether you are looking for an entry level position or seeking new challenges, you owe it to yourself to attend. Admission is free. Parking is free. (print parking pass).

Everyone is invited to the Harris County Job Fair at NRG Center, September 30, 2014, 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. Representatives from many Harris County Departments will be on hand to discuss career opportunities and accept applications for clerical, technical, professional, mechanical and heavy-equipment operator positions.

Be Your Own Boss

Have you always wanted to start your own business but weren't sure how?  The Maud Marks Library can help with that!  Join us this Saturday, May 17 at 2 PM as we learn everything we need to know to start our small business.  SCORE, a volunteer group who offer business counseling to small business owners, will be here to show you how it’s done.  Some of the topics covered include choosing a business entity, the right location, business expenses and deductions, employees vs. subcontractors, financial organization (setting up your books), forms, websites and more.  Like many of our adult programs, pre-registration is required to click here to let us know that you will be joining us.

Job Seminar Continues on Monday

Our month of job assistance got of to a great start last week with our Steps to Starting Your Own Business seminar.  (Did you miss it?  Don't worry, we'll have another one on May 17th.)  It continued this past Monday with our session on resumes, cover letters, and applications.  If you've missed any of them, don't worry, it's not too late to jump in there and join us!

This Monday, April 28 at 10 AM, Texas Workforce Solutions will be here to continue the series with the next seminar, Networking & Using Social Media.  Learn the ins and outs of networking to find your next job as well as how to properly use social media websites such as LinkedIn and more.  All this in a 2 hour class.

Find Your Dream Job

Are you ready to stretch your wings in your professional life?  Are you still looking for a job and starting to get frustrated?  Join us for Dream Job month at the Maud Marks Library!  Dream Job month runs April 15- May 19th as we offer various types of assistance to our customers in "job search mode".  

We have a preview of our month beginning right now with our job search display which can be found right as you walk in the library's doors.  Our display contains many books on resumes, interviewing, and the entire job search process.

Then, we begin on Tuesday, April 15th at 7 PM with the City of Houston Office of Business Opportunity.  They will be at the Maud Marks Library to take our customers through all the steps needed to start their own business.  Why work for others when you can work for yourself.  (Don't worry if you can't make it that night, we'll have more opportunities later.)
