Citizenship Month Family Program With “Faithful Paws”

Dogs, cats, and rabbits are beautiful and incredible animals, but did you know that they can work as therapy pets? Have you ever wondered what therapy pets do, or how a dog, cat, or rabbit can become a therapy pet? Faithful Paws Pet Therapy is an amazing organization specialized in training animals specifically designed to administer unconditional love and therapy to adults and children in nursing homes or hospitals. We invite families and people of all ages to visit us on Tuesday, November 21 @ 2:00pm to learn more about pet therapy from Faithful Paws.

Celebrate Local Artists With Family Art

During the month of April, the Maud Marks Library is celebrating local artists!  Throughout the month, some of those artists will be stopping by to do art talks and workshops.  First up, this Saturday, April 8 at 3 PM, Meghna Patil will be here to show elementary school aged children the fine art of painting.  Children and their parents are invited to come and create their own masterpieces as we learn more about Ms. Patil's art and her painting process.  This is a ticketed event.  Please show up at 2:30 for tickets.  Afterwards, be sure to check out the many paintings and sculptures throughout the library.  The Maud Marks Library would like to thank the Friends of the Maud Marks Library for sponsoring this month long event as we Celebrate Local Artists!

Para los Ninos Bilingual Storytime

Join us on Wednesday, March 8th, at 6:00 pm for our Para los Ninos Bilingual Storytime!  Our topic this month is Math at Home.  The activities will demonstrate how math is used every day in the home and how you and your child can easily work on those skills.  Para los Niños is a fun, educational, bilingual workshop designed by the Children’s Museum of Houston for the whole family. We will be reading stories, singing songs and enjoying hands on learning activities that will make your child’s learning fun and exciting. This program is designed for children age 3-7 years old. Each family will be given a family ticket to the Children's Museum at the conclusion of the program. Space is limited and tickets will be handed out 30 minutes before the program

Celebrate Black History Month

February is, among other things, Black History Month.  We like to celebrate here at the Maud Marks Library with a huge festival!  Join us this Friday, February 10, 1-4 PM for our Black History month festival.  AfroTones and Jazz Education, Inc. will be here to present the history of music from the drums of the motherland to the jazz of today.  We will have several story times including The Patchwork Quilt by Bettye Stroud.  We will be coloring and piecing together a giant Freedom quilt as well as making other crafts.  Of course, the International Cafe will be open as well with a taste of Africa and the Southern U.S. inspired by life on the plantations.

Join us as we learn more about the African American culture and history of our own country!
