The Beekeeper's Apprentice  is the first in a series, which was recommended to me by a friend. The author, Laurie R. King, reports that a trunk containing the writings of a Mary Russell was mysteriously delivered to her. She has no idea who Mary Russell was, and she finds the story farfetched, but she needed the money, so she published this book.
