Checking Back in with The Living Library at Finnigan Park’s YET Center

The Living Library continues to be a welcoming and lively space for young readers at Finnigan Park’s Youth Education Tower (YET) Center. The support and encouragement of Calvin Williams, the Director of the YET Center, and Ariel Goree, a dedicated staff member, have been invaluable and integral to the library’s success.

In addition to supporting the Book Buddies program, the Living Library has also expanded its open reading hours in response to the kids’ feedback. Anjela Martinez, our new Programs and Outreach Specialist, visits twice a week to open the Living Library for any young reader who wants to cozy up with a book, check out and play with an educational eReader, or listen to narration as they follow along with a text by using one of the bookpacks.

Thanks to a Grant from Better World Books, a Library Comes to Life in the Fifth Ward's Finnigan Park

Thanks to a literacy grant from Better World Books, Harris County Public Library was able to partner with Harris County Precinct 1's Finnigan Park to build a Living Library at their Youth Education Tower (YET) Center. Located in the 5th Ward, Finnigan Park’s YET Center serves as a safe, after-school space for elementary and middle school students from three neighborhood schools.
