Holiday Food Drive

It is time for our beautiful tradition: Holiday Food Drive. Your donations of non-perishable food items will be accepted from 6 AM to 6 PM Friday December 6 in the parking lot of Maud Marks Library. Channel 13 and the Taylor high school Jazz Band will be greeting donors in the morning. The hard-working volunteers will be here all day long to receive, sort and box your donations. If you have plans that day you can bring your contributions to Maud Marks during the library opening hours. Your donations will be distributed to families in our community by the Katy Christian Ministry. We hope to see you'

Gulf Coast Reads

Dog StarsGulf Coast Reads is an effort to get as many people as possible in the multi-county, greater Houston area to read the same book during October, so that we’ll all have something in common to talk about.  This year’s book is The Dog Stars by Peter Heller.  It describes the life of Hig, a small-plane pilot, after a flu pandemic has wiped out most of the population of the planet Earth.  We are having two events at the Fairbanks Branch Library in connection with Gulf Coast Reads.  On Thursday, October 17, at 4:30, we are hosting a discussion of the book.  Everyone is invited to read the book and come and talk about it.  Please let us know if you plan on coming.  In addition, bec...

Thank You, Maud Marks Patrons!

The Maud Marks Library believes we have the best customers!  We would like to thank everyone in the Katy area for their generosity this holiday season.  On December 4th, we partnered with ABC 13 and Katy Christian Ministries for the annual Share Your Holidays food drive.  We are pleased to announce that despite the snow and our early closure, (we closed at 2 PM) the Maud Marks Library doubled the amount of food collected during our 2008 food drive.

The annual Toys for Tots drive also collected more toys than usual.  You, our customers, filled our big toy box over 3 times with toys for children of all ages.

The Maud Marks Library would like to thank you for your generosity during this 2009 holiday season.  We are grateful for all you do to keep our community a wonderful place to live and work.

It's beginning to look (and feel) a lot like the December holidays.  Are you ready?!  If not, don't worry at all!  The Maud Marks Library has a number of ways to prepare for the winter holidays.

Are you still trying to find that perfect holiday card for that special someone?  Why not make it yourself?  The Maud Marks Library will be hosting a special one time class on how to make holiday cards tomorrow night, Tuesday, December 1 at 7 PM.  We'll be learning how to make our own cards on the computer and even print one per person.  This class size is extremely limited so click here to register.

Share Your Holidays Food Drive

The need for food is up 40% this year according the Houston Food Bank which services an 18 county area surrounding Houston. Times are hard, no doubt, but you can help make things easier for a family this season.
When you do your Thanksgiving shopping take the time to add a few extra items in your grocery cart and bring them to the library on or before December 4th.  This year’s annual Share Your Holidays Food Drive takes place at the Maud Marks branch from 6am-6pm on Friday, December 4th.
We’ll have Volunteers at the Food Drive the entire day to take your donations of nonperishable food. The Maud Marks Library is the designated food drive location for the Katy area.  Food donated here stays in the community!
Hope to see you there!

Our Terrific Teens!

At the Maud Marks Library, we sure do love our junior high students.  In fact, we think we have the most creative teenagers at our branch.

On Tuesday, we asked participants in our afterschool program, Teen Time, to design posters advertising our upcoming food drive.  Every year in early December, the Maud Marks Library teams up with Channel 13 and Katy Christian Ministries to collect non-perishable food items for needy familes in the Katy area.  All the food collected stays right here in Katy.

Here is just an example of the very cool posters the teens created.  Click here to see more and don't forget to bring your non-perishable food item to the Maud Marks Library by Friday, December 4, 2009!
