Santa Claus visits Freeman on Thursday, December 14 @5:30-7:00 pm

Santa Claus will visit Freeman Library this Thursday, December 14 from 5:30-7:00 pm.   Tickets are required for this program.  They are free and given out starting at 5:00 pm.  The tickets will be numbered and Santa will see the children in number order.   Parents are encouraged to bring a camera or phone to snap a picture.  Special thanks to the Friends of Freeman Library and HEB for providing treats for this program.

December Events for Children

Here are some fun and festive events for children to attend this month:

Monday Maker Programs - These afterschool programs are on Mondays at 4:30 pm for children 5-12 years old.  Here are the themes - 12/4 - Catapults; 12/11 - Magnetic Mosaics; and 12/18 - Lego Free Play.  Free tickets are given out 30 minutes before the program.

Satrurday, December 9 - Make A Lego Bolo Tie at 2 pm.   Children 5-12 years can make a Lego Bolo Tie to show off at the Houston Rodeo in a couple of months  Leslie Eaton of the Houston Rodeo Speakers Committee will talk about western lore and then children will make the tie.  Tickets are required.  They'll be given out at 1:30 pm.

November Book Club: Charlotte's Web on Thursday, November 30 @ 4:30 pm

  Join us Thursday, November 30 @ 4:30 pm for a brief book club discussion of E.B. White's "Charlotte's Web"  followed by a snack and a viewing of a film adaptation of the book.   This program is recommended for children of all ages.  The film adaptation is rated G and it runs 96 minutes.  Tickets are required.  They are free and available starting 30 minutes before the program.  Thank you to the Friends of Freeman for supporting this program.

Fall Crafts Fun on Thursday, November 16 at 4:30 pm

   Looking for some fun holiday decorating ideas for the children this Thanksgiving?  Join us on Thursday, November 16 at 4:30 pm for crafts for the 3-12 year old decorators in your home.  We'll be decorating a picture frame with glittery leaves, creating a colorful corn decoration, and crafting festive napkin rings that can be used at the table.   We'll also have some fun coloring sheets and activity sheets to take home.     Tickets are required.  They are free and available at the Kids Information Desk at 4:00 pm.

Pajama Storytime on Thursday, November 9 @ 6 pm

 Looking for a fun evening outing for the young ones?  Join us this Thursday, November 9 at 6:00 pm for Pajama Storytime.   This storytime program features stories, songs, and a craft.  Children are welcome to wear their pajamas and slippers and bring a cuddly toy or blanket.   Tickets are needed for this program.  The tickets are free and available 30 minutes before the program.  Thank you to the Friends of Freeman Library for supporting this program over the years.

The 2017 Project Pumpkin Vote is In...

  The vote is in for the 2017 Project Pumpkin. The top 3 winners: 1) Fluffy Unicorn; 2) Poppy, and 3) Rockiin' Pete the Cat.  There were 286 votes cast in this year's contest.  Thank you to HEB for the generous donation of pumpkins and to the Friends of Freeman Library for the art supplies.

2017 Project Pumpkin Voting ends Tuesday, October 31

  The 2017 Project Pumpkin vote is nearing an end.  We had 8 entrants tihis year.  The pumpkins were decorated by library staff.   They were based on book characters such as Rockin' Pete the Cat or popular culture characters such as Mr. Pumpkin Head.  The vote is being held at the Kids Information Desk.  The wote ends on Tuesday, October 31.  The top 3 pumpkins will be revealed on Wednesay, November 1 and the pumpkins will be on display through Thursday, November 2. Thank you to tHEB for the generous donation of pumpkins and the Friends of Freeman Library for the art supplies.

Maker Monday features Puzzles and Games on Monday, October 30 @ 4:30 pm

Today's Monday Maker features games and puzzles at 4:30 pm.   Children 5-12 years can have fun with word puzzles, jigsaw puzzles, Soduku, Scrabble and Mancala.  This afterschool program is held weekly throughout the school year.  Tickets are required.  They are free and available at the Kids Information Desk starting at 4:00 pm.  Special thanks to the Friends of Freeman Library for their generous support in purchasing games over the years.

Project Pumpkin - Day 2

  This is Day 2 of Freeman Library's 2017 Project Pumpkin program.   This Freeman tradition features several pumpkins decorated by library staff using paint and other materials but no carving is done to the pumpkins.   The pumpkins were generously donated by HEB and many of the art supplies used on the pumpkins have been purchased through the Friends of Freeman Library.   This year there are 8 pumpkins decorated as classic children's book characters or other popular culture figures.   Today's pumpkin is Poppy  - inspired by the troll in the movie Trolls.  Children and adults can vote for their favorite pumpkins through October 31.  The pumpkins with the top 3 votes will be revealed on November 1.

Trek the Galaxy Program kicks off at Freeman Library on Thursday, October 26 at 6 pm

  Children and families can learn about space exploration in a hands-on experience at Freeman Library this Thursday, October 26 at 6:00 pm.  This hour-long program features several activity stations where children can do fun things like visit the moon, map the stars, and cook like an astronaut!.  This program is brought to Freeman Library through NASA @ My Library.  No tickets will be needed for this event that will be held througout the Children's Department.
