SRP Program: Paint the Universe on Friday, June 21 at 10:15 & 11:15 am

  Children 5-12 years old will enjoy showing their creativity when they attend "Paint the Universe' on Friday, June 21.  We'll have a session at 10:15 and 11:15 am.  Children will get to see some inspiring images of the universe and then they'll get to paint their own concept of the universe on a canvas to take home.  All supplies are free and provided in the program.  Tickets are required.  They are given out at 10:00 am for the 10:15 session and 10:45 am for the 11:15 session.

Pajama Storytime on Thursday, June 20 @ 6:00 pm

  Looking for a fun evening outing for the family?  Join us at 6:00 pm on Thursday, June 20 for Pajama Storytime.  This evening storytime features stories, songs, fingerplays, and a fun craft/  Children are welcome to wear pajamas, slippers and even bring a stuffed animal friend.  Tickets are given out at 5:30 pm.

Summer Reading Program: Castaway Science Island on Thursday, 6/20 at 2:30 & 3:30 pm

What would you do if you were stranded on a deserted island?  Join us on Thursday, June 20 at 2:30 & 3:30 pm as a scientist friend shows us ways that science helps in our everyday lives - even if we're stranded on a deserted island!   This program combines science concepts with lots of humor.  All ages are welcome.  Tickets are required.  They are free and available starting 30 minutes before each session.   Freeman opens at 1 pm on Thursdays.

Join the 2019 Summer Reading Program: A Universe of Stories

The 2019 Summer Reading Program began today with a great turnout at Freeman Library for our morning storiytimes.  In addition to storytimes, ,we have special afternoon programs on Tuesdays and Thursdays for most agess and Monday afternoon programs for tweens 8-12 years old.   Children, teens, and adults of all ages will have a great time reading books and attending programs to earn points.  To join in the fun,stop by the Children's Desk to register or go to hcpl.beanstack.org to register online.

Here are some hightlights for this week's afternoon programs: 

Tuesday, June 4 - Rocket Party - 2:30-4 pm - children iof all ages will have a great time making a soda straw rocket, launching it and recording how far it goes.  No tickets are needed for this fun time.

Teen Summer Volunteer Open House on Friday, May 17 @ 4:30 pm

Teens: Are you looking for volunteer time this summer?  The Children's Department is hosting a teen volunteer Open House this Friday, May 17 at 4:30 pm.  We'll have a brief talk about the volunteer opportunities and then we'll have them listed on a table so that you can sign up for volunteer time this summer..  Parents are welcome to attend.  Thank you to the Friends of Freeman Library for supporting summer programs and our volunteers.

Adults - Join Us for Our WikiTree Genealogy Class on Thursday, 5/16 at 7:00 PM in the 2nd Floor Computer Lab!

You'll learn about WikiTree, a free, collaborative, source/documentation based online single family tree. Whether you are already a seasoned researcher or just interested in starting your family tree research, WikiTree has something for everyone and this class will help you get started and learn how to build and add to your family history using WikiTree.

Pajama Storytime on Thursday, May 9 @ 6:00 pm

Children can wear their comfy slippers and pajamas at Pajama Storytime on Thursday, May 10 at 6 pm.   We'll have stories, songs, and fingerplays as well as a fun craft.  Tickets for this program are given out at 5:30 pm.  Thank you to the Friends of Freeman Library for supporting this program.

Texas Bluebonnet Booktalk on Thursday, May 9 @ 4:30 pm

  Tweens 8-12 years old will have a great time making a cardboard castle during this week's Texas Bluebonnet Booktalk on Thursday, May 9 @ 4:30 pm.  We'll learn about Texas Bluebonnet Award nominee The Cardboard Kingdom. We'll also look at a few videos related to this amazing graphic noviel featuring a group of children in a neighborhood who create a kingdom out of cardboard.  We'll usie cardboard and other items to create our own castles.  Tickets given out at 4:00 pm.  Thank you to the Friends of Freeman Library for supporting this program.

STEAM Tween Wednesday: 3D Structures on Wednesday, May 8 @ 4:30 pm

Tweens 8-12 years old will have a great time this Wednesday afternoon 5/8 at 4:30 pm creating 3D structures from household items such as toothpicks, styrofoam, and other objects.  They'll get to use engineering skills as they put together their creations.   Tickets given out at 4:00 pm.  Thank you to the Friends of Freeman Library for supporting this program.

Adults - Computer Basics for Beginners is Thursday, 5/9!
