Adults - Stellar Trivia Night Happens Monday, 7/29!


 

Get ready for Stellar Trivia Night at the library! Do you have tons of knowledge of random subjects? Do you like a little friendly competition? If so, then you should come to Trivia Night here at the library. Teams will compete against one another for the glory of the win. Bring your friends or come solo for a fun evening of facts!

Be here at 6:30 to form teams. The game will begin at 6:45.

Stellar Trivia Night will be sponsored by the Friends of Freeman Library.

April 27th is International Table Top Games Day!

To celebrate, we will have Tabletop Games available for friends and family to play on the library floor from 1:30 PM to 4 PM.

Our featured game will be Pandemic. 

Mancala Strategy Game

February is African American History Month, and we invite children ages 6 and up to come to the library and discover the ancient strategy and counting game Mancala. Mancala describes several strategy and counting games which originated in Africa more than a thousand years ago. Mancala games are some of the oldest strategy games and are played all over the world. During this program, participants will learn how to play a version of Mancala on both a physical wooden board and a digital application. Join us on Monday, February 18 at 4:30 pm to learn about Mancala.

Game Day @ Katy Library

Have fun with us on Game Day at the Library!

Choose from a wide selection of board games (i.e.: Operation, Sorry, Scrabble, Trivial Pursuit, and chess) or bring your own.  Be sure to also bring your family and friends!

Celebrate Read Across America Day with The Cat in the Hat and the Arandas' Mascot "Goat"

Read Across America is an annual celebration created by the National Education Association and promotes the excitement of reading and books to children and teens everywhere. Here at the South Houston Branch Library we invite you to celebrate Read Across America Day during our celebration next Thursday, March 1 at 4:30 PM. Children will have the opportunity to enjoy a cake sponsored by Arandas Bakery, prepare their own Dr. Seuss snacks, and participate in fun games. "The Cat in the Hat" and the Arandas mascot "The Goat" will be present and available to take pictures with children. We invite you to come and celebrate the magic of reading with us.

Winter Olympics Curling Game

The Winter Olympic Games are upon us, and to celebrate we will be having a fun game of Curling on Thursday February 15 @ 4:30 PM. Curling is a game in which members of a team try to control the direction and speed of a round flat stone by sweeping the surface of the ice in the stone's path. Kids ages 6-12 are invited to play our own non-ice modified version of this game and will receive an Olympic Games Diploma.

Cooks and Books

For our December meeting, read the “animal” book of your choice and bring it along for discussion and games. By popular demand, we will be making mini-pizzas!

International Games Day @ 2-4 PM [All Ages]

In cooperation with International Games Day, the Parker Williams Branch will be hosting a variety of board, card, and tablet video games on Saturday, November 4th from 2-4 PM on the main floor of the library.

Staff will be available for an Introduction to Magic: The Gathering to anyone who is interested in learning.
