Your Reading List

Occasionally customers will ask us if our library management system keeps a list of the books they have previously checked out. Usually our curious customers are trying to remember the last book they read in a series, or whether they have enjoyed this author before. The short answer is "No." Unless you have an outstanding late fee on a book, our system wipes out the record of you ever having checked out an item. We do that partly to protect your privacy and partly so we can save space on our servers.

However, there are several online social media sites for avid readers that let you document, review, and share your book lists (or keep them private to yourself). We librarians use all of them and, other than personal quirks and preferences, we recommend all of them. Library Thing (, Goodreads (, and Shelfari ( will let you make lists of what you have read, want to read, wish you hadn't read; compare notes with other people; find read-alikes, and do much more. Give them a try!

Goodreads Choice Awards 2014

On December 2 the popular website, Goodreads, announced its 2014 Choice Awards. These awards are nominated and voted on by users of the site. Following is a list of some of the winners. How many did you read this year?

Landline, Rainbow Rowell

Though they still love each other, Georgie and Neal's marriage is in trouble. Two days before they are supposed to take their two kids to Neal's family in Omaha for Christmas, something comes up at Georgie's job and she can't go. When Neal takes the kids anyway, Georgie wonders if their marriage is over. But when she finds a way to communicate with Neal in the past, she feels like she's been given an opportunity to fix her marriage before it starts. Is that what she's supposed to do? Or would Georgie and Neal be better off if their marriage never happened?
