HCPL Receives ALA/Google Grant

Harris County Public Library is the only library in Texas to be part of the 2017 Libraries Ready to Code initiative.

The grant comes from the American Library Association and is sponsored by Google. With the funding, HCPL will work with twenty-eight other libraries across the country to design and implement computer coding programs for young people.

The grant-funded programs will address specific groups that are currently underrepresented in computer science careers: girls, residents of rural and low-income communities, as well as young people of color and those with disabilities.
