Hispanic Heritage in the Movies

The Aldine Library is celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month with movies. On Wednesday, September 17th at 4 PM, we are showing a film for the whole family about a young girl in Mexico who prepares to celebrate her Quince Anos (fifteenth birthday). Refreshments will be provided. On Friday September 19th at 3 PM, there will be a teen movie and discussion with free snacks. Join us for these special events. See you at the movies!

Hispanic Heritage Month @ HCPL

September 15 through October 15 is the month set aside to recognize the contributions people of Hispanic descent have made to this country and its culture. Harris County Public Library branches will be presenting special programs and events to educate and entertain people of all ages. Below are just a few of the highlights to come, in addition to special themed storytimes, movies and book clubs.

Movie at Aldine! Saturday 9/28 @ 2PM / Película en Aldine! Sábado 9/28 @ 2 PM

Come celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month at the Aldine Library by watching a movie about a young boy from Mexico who travels to the U.S. to find his mother after his grandmother passes away. The film is rated PG-13. Refreshments will be provided. We'll see you today, Saturday 9/28, at 2 PM in the Meeting Room!  

Venga celebrar el Mes de la Hispanidad en la Biblioteca Aldine por ver una película sobre un joven de México que viaja a los EE.UU. para encontrar a su madre después de que su abuela muere. La película está clasificada PG-13 por elementos temáticos maduros.Se proporcionarán refrescos. Nos vemos hoy, sábado 9/28, a las 2:00 en la Sala de reuniones!

1-2-Cha-Cha-Cha: Latin Dance Demo

Latin DanceThere's still time to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month with Kingwood Branch Library! On Wednesday, October 2nd at 6:30 PMFred Astaire of Lake Houston will demonstrate popular Latin dances including Salsa and Mambo at Kingwood Branch Library. In this hour-long program, participants will see the instructor explain each dance and moves then get to practice the steps with the help of the instructor.

This program is free and open to individuals ages 18 and over. Registration is recommended as space is limited; walk-ins are welcome if space permits.

Day of the Dead Sugar Skulls!

sugar skullsKingwood area teens, grades 6-12, are invited to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month by decorating Day of the Dead themed Sugar Skulls!  This program will take place Saturday, September 28th in the second floor Teen Area.  The program will start at 11am, and will run until 4pm or until supplies run out.

September 15 - October 15 represents Hispanic Heritage Month and we at Harris County Public Library invite you to join us in celebrating the contributions people of Hispanic descent have made and continue to make in all facets of cultural and civic life in this great big mosaic of a county we all call home. HCPL will host programs for every age group that will entertain and inform. Scheduled events include movies, crafts,   dance demonstrations, a presentation on Latino history and literature, and--because we take celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month--seriously, several branches will hold fiestas with music, crafts, food and more!

Below are just some of the great programs in store across the county for Hispanic Heritage Month. Check your branch's Events Calendar for more. All programs are free and open to the public.

Spice Train: Peru

Peruvian CuisineWhat do people in Peru like to eat? 

Come find out this Monday, September 23, at 6 pm, as Baldwin Boettcher's Spice Train travels to Peru for a special program celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month.  You can sample some favorite Peruvian dishes, visit with library staff and your neighbors, and listen to Latin music.  Ahhh!  Sounds fun!

Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month

    Children and adults are invited to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month this Thursday, September 19 from 4:00-6:00 pm in the Community Room.  There will be fun crafts, festive music, challenging activity sheets and a colorful pinata!  This program is funded by the generous donations of the Friends of Freeman Library. 

DIY Flower Pots with Sugar Skull Designs

Flower PotsWhy should kids have all the crafting fun? This month marks our first Adult Crafternoon, a monthly craft program just for adults! Join us this Friday, September 20th at 2:30 PM for craft and conversation. In conjunction with Hispanic Heritage Month, we are decorating flower pots inspired by sugar skull designs. No registration is required. All materials are provided, while supplies last. Materials are provided courtesy of Friends of the Library Kingwood.
