Tax Season Begins Again

We've rolled out the tax forms. This year they are to the right of the front entrance on two mobile display units. As usual not all of the forms have been delivered yet, so here's a list of what we have.

Form 1040(Instructions 1040 ALL won't be in until the end of the month), Form 1040 A, Instruction 1040 A, Form 1040 EZ, Instruction 1040 EZ, and the big Publication 17--Your Federal Income Tax have arrived.

As well we have Schedules A, B, C, E, EIC, and SE and Form 1040 NR-EZ.

We  also have Forms 2441, 3903, and 5695.

And we have a supply of W2, W4, 1096, and 1099 Miscellaneous.

The American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) Tax Aide program, where retired volunteers prepare simple tax submissions for elderly and low income people, begins Wednesday, February 1st and continues until Monday, April 16, every Monday (noon-4 pm), Wednesday (10-2), and Saturday (11-3) in our large meeting room, L 129.

You can also get printable forms from the Internal Revenue Service website, www.irs.gov. Click on 'Forms and Pubs' on the orange banner headline.

Don't Procrastinate!

Tax formsWe have volunteers from AARP here to help people (regardless of age) complete their federal income tax forms on Mondays and Tuesdays from 1 pm – 5 pm, and Saturdays from 10 am – 2 pm.  Here’s a friendly warning:  The longer you put it off, the bigger the crowd will be.

Love Poems For Valentine's Day: Guaranteed To Throw Sparks Or Your Money Back.

Photo Credit: aliança by Rodrigo GianesiFor some people Valentine's Day is easy. They sow Necco Sweethearts like grass seed, believing each little saying imprinted on each little pastel-tinted heart to be meaningful if not oracular. Then there are the conspiracy theorists who claim to have documented proof that the Truffle Makers' Guild and the equally nefarious Greeting Card Poets' Bund are behind the whole charade.

And then there are the rest of us, swinging between hope and despair.

Help With Income Tax Forms

Tax formIt’s time again to fill out those pesky income tax forms. Fortunately, AARP volunteers trained by the IRS will once again be at the Fairbanks Library 3 days per week to help people complete and file their federal income tax forms. There are no age or income requirements for receiving help from the volunteers. They will be here from February 1 through April 13, Mondays from 1 pm - 5 pm, Tuesdays from 1 pm - 5 pm, and Saturdays from 10 am - 2 pm. The volunteers offer assistance only in person (not by telephone) and only on a first come, first served basis. (Appointments are not possible.)
