Oh, the Places You Will Go, When You Open a Book!

Have you ever wanted to  travel back in time?  Do you day dream of faraway places and wonder what it would be like? Just grab a book. Here are a few that I think you will enjoy.

Support Your Library

Our funding comes from the state as well as the county, so if you’ve been well served by the library in the past year, please tell your state representatives. They need to hear from you so they can advocate for library services as they go into budget sessions.

To find out who represents you, use the QR code to the left or  click on this link: http://www.house.state.tx.us/members/find-your-representative/ and put in your residential address.

If you like, here is a link to a sample letter provided by the Texas Library Association: http://www.hcpl.net/sites/default/files/Legislative Sample Letter.pdf

A big thanks from us.

Chill at the library

After you've voted today, if you need a comfortable quiet place to get away from the election madness, come to the library!  We have coffee and soda and snacks. Curl up with a good book, listen to your iPod, play on one of our free computers, put your feet up, absorb the good qi; breathe. We're open until 9:30. The election won't be decided before then. Come and hide out, hang out, chill, take a break.

Books! Books! Books For Sale!

Are you tired of spending a bundle on books at the bookstore and want a good read for a great price? Well, look no more. Mark your calenders for Saturday August 25th at 10am in the Northwest library meeting room, where Friends of the Library will be hosting their wonderful book sale just for you! Find great picks on movies, music, magazines, special items, and of course, who can forget the books. Purchases you make will be used to support the library and all programs we have during the year. Isn't it great, you buy great books at a bargain price and at the same time you are helping to support your public library. Sale ends at 4pm so add this event to your to do list so you don't miss out. See you there!

I LOVE MY LIBRARY

I cannot imagine my life without the library.  Mom always tooks us when we were children.  I naturally took my own children.  Now I work at the library.  What a nice place to work. But, really, it's all about the books.  It's about the joy of reading.  It's about the people you meet and the places you go in a book.  There is always one more book to read.  The best part is, IT'S FREE. I found a great site for those of you who love the library as much as I do, ilovemylibrary.org. They have a wonderful page where you can calculate the value of your library experience.

HAPPY MEMORIAL DAY!

We hope that you enjoy the Memorial Day holiday! The North Channel Branch and all Harris County Libraries will be closed both Sunday, May 30th, and Monday, May 31st. We will reopen Tuesday, June 1st, at 10 am. If you need to renew materials, please remember to phone the Renewal Line at 713-747-4763 or visit our website at:  www.hcpl.net  You will need your library barcode number and 4 digit PIN to renew using either of these services. If you return materials to the Book Drop, do NOT leave them on the Front Porch if the Book Drop is full. Please keep your materials. When you bring the materials back once we reopen, just let us know that the Book Drop was full and we will waive your fines. See you after the holiday!
