Interviewing workshop scheduled January 26th, 2017 from 1:00-3:00 pm at the Northwest Branch Library.

The interview is where jobs are won or lost!  Learn steps to help you make a great first impression, appropriately respond to questions, and effectively follow-up to improve your chances of getting an offer. Staff from Workforce Solutions will be on hand to assist customers with their resume needs.

Star Wars Day this Saturday December 17th 2016

 

To celebrate the release of the latest Star Wars movie, the Northwest Branch Library is hosting Star Wars Day again! From noon until four, families, children, and fans of all ages can come into the Northwest Meeting Room and dress up like Yoda, set off their own spaceships, and make lightsabers. They’ll also have the chance to take pictures with their favorite heroes and villains, as well as play with the BB-8 Sphero droid. Come in costume! Join the Jedi or the Sith! Stay until the end and watch The Force Awakens. No registration required, but program supplies are limited.

Simple Steps for Starting Your Business 

Starting a business remains very challenging to many aspiring entrepreneurs.  In this workshop, participants will learn simple yet proven and tested steps for starting a new business.  At the end of the workshop, participants will have the opportunity to meet SCORE  certified mentors who are readily available to provide FREE and CONFIDENTIAL mentoring.

Participants will learn and understand the following:    

  • Realities of entrepreneurship
  • Critical success factors
  • Components of Business Ownership
  • Making your Business Legal

Toys for Tots

Precinct 3, in a partnership with the U.S. Marine Corps, is collecting toys for Toys for Tots. Currently new, unwrapped toys for girls and boys are being collected, and the Northwest Branch Library is serving as one of the collection sites. Donations will be accepted through Friday, December 16. For more information on Toys for Tots, visit here.

Expanded Hours at Five HCPL Branches

More time at your libraryOn June 1, 2014, customers of five Harris County Public Library branches will see an increase in their library’s operating hours. 

  • Galena Park, Northwest and South Houston branch libraries, which are currently closed on Fridays, will all be open Fridays 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
  • Jacinto City and Stratford branches will add more weekend hours. They, along with all other HCPL locations, will be open Saturdays 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
