Introducing Blogging Basics. A blog, short for weblog, is a website in which a person shares his or her personal thoughts, opinions, activities, and experiences. It is an online version of a personal diary or journal. People called bloggers typically blog, or share posts, about whatever interests them. Some people blog about their personal lives, jobs, and families, while others blog about a particular topic or subject of interest such as food, politics, home decorating, health and fitness, sports, or pets. People blog for a variety of reasons such as to share their lives, educate others, and make money. In addition, blogs allow writers to interact with readers known as followers by letting them leave comments about blog posts.

Commit for Life Blood Drive at Northwest Branch Library

Want to help save a life? Then come and donate blood with the Northwest Branch on Friday, June 16th from 10:30 to 3pm! Northwest is partnering with the Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center to hold a blood drive! Be sure to Eat, Drink and Have ID before coming! Closed in Observance of Memorial Day

The Northwest Branch Library will be closed Monday, May 29th in observance  of Memorial Day. The library will resume normal operating hours at 10:00a am on Tuesday, May 30th. Memorial Day commemorates the men and women who died while in the military service.   A national moment of remembrance takes place at 3:00 p.m. local time.

Emedia & Apps Workshops

 A staff member will be available to provide hands on assistance with ebook/eaudiobook downloads through Overdrive/HOOPLA/Recorded books on devices such as I-Pads, Kindles, and Smart Phones. Staff will answer questions and troubleshoot problems that customers may be encounter while using a digital library service. Tuesday's at 3:00pm and Saturdays on 5/6 & 5/20 at 10:00am.

Harris County Master Gardeners - Container Gardening Program May 13th at 10:30am

Container gardens are the perfect way to liven up your front entrance, create a small herb garden or soften the look of your deck, porch or patio. They can provide instant color in drab areas, and you can create your own mini-garden in an hour or less. Best of all, they’re easy to care for and maintain. Harris County Master Gardener Kathy Keeney will  present a program focused on Container Gardening.  The Harris County Master Gardeners are a volunteer arm of the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service. Craft Brewology 101 Saturday, May 27 at 2:00pm

Have you ever noticed the  growing number of unfamiliar beers at the grocery store? What in the world is an IPA?! Curious about craft brewing? Join us for a presentation from Lone Pint Brewery about the brewing  process and get a  virtual tour of the brewery!      Q & A session to follow. S.C.O.R.E.S. - QuickBooks for Beginners May 25, 2017 at 1:00pm

Are you a small business owner who is wondering how to keep track of sales, inventory, or assets? Perhaps you need help with accounts receivable/payable, payroll, sales tax, payroll taxes and how to beter determine cash in and out. Or, maybe you have questions regarding profitablility or how to file tax returns easier. This workshop will provide you an overview of QuickBooks that will help you decide if this is the tool for you and what can you get by using this software. Also, how much will it cost and what kind of technical support can you expect.
