Northwest Branch Library

Annual Community Book Drive

The Ladies for Literacy Guild in partnership with the Houston Rockets Women’s Organization, Reliant, and Harris County Public Library will be hosting our 3rd Annual Community Book Drive to stock our Curiosity Cruiser and place books in the hands of children in need. As part of this citywide event that is held during the month of March (National Literacy Awareness Month), Northwest Branch Library is collecting new children’s, young adult, and adult books. These books will be distributed to families in need through the Curiosity Cruiser or our literacy partner organizations.

March Book Clubs at Northwest Branch Library

Good news readers, there are several book clubs that meet regularly at the Northwest Branch Library. Did you know that there are several benefits associated with actively attending a book club? Book clubs have been known to decrease stress and are good for those customers who are of retirement age. Book Clubs can help participants gain new perspective on an issue, make new friends and to hopefully become more involved in their community. Also, if you're an aspiring writer, regular book club participation can help improve or expand your own writing skills. Perhaps the best reason to particpiate in an active book club is that it can give a reader the push they need to finish that book.

There's a database for that....

Where can you go to find information for your school projects and reports? Where is a one-stop shop to find authoritative, credible and current information?  Where are you likely to find information that you can trust? Where can you find information easily, quickly and even gives you the citation format of your choosing already formatted for you in a variety of citation formats?  The answer is Texshare, that’s where. The Harris County library has access to TexShare Databases, which are e-resources licensed for the exclusive use of Texas libraries and our customers. Start with Harris County Library Databases for homework help, health or business information, academic journals, popular magazines, genealogy, or job and career development.
