Pen and Paintbrush Book Club

A Great Book and Beautiful Art

Join us as The Pen and Paintbrush Book Club reads Loteria by Mario Alberto Zamrano. It’s a lyrical, wonderful novel about a young girl, Luz Maria Castillo. Her family is falling apart and she copes by looking at her deck of Loteria cards. Each card reminds her of family memories and through these we learn the story of her family. Loteria refers to a Mexican card game and each chapter has a beautiful picture of one of the cards.  The Pen and Paintbrush Book Club is a collaborative effort of the Barbara Bush Library and the Pearl Fincher Museum of Fine Art. Three times a year, the group reads a book that relates to the current exhibit at the museum and then meets to discuss it and view the exhibit. The meeting for Loteria will be Thursday, Dec. 11 at 1:30 at the Pearl Finch Museum. For more information, call Clara Maynard at the library.
