Libraries – The Original Recyclers

RecycleI had never thought about it that way.  Then yesterday I saw two t-shirts, one that said, “Libraries: Recycling since 300 B.C.” and one that said, “Read Green: Borrow from Your Public Library.”  Wow!  Imagine all of the trees that have been saved by people sharing books (scrolls, manuscripts, etc.) through libraries in the past 2300 years.  That’s a lot of trees.  We were eco-friendly when eco-friendly wasn’t cool.  And now we’re sharing CDs and DVDs, so that’s like recycling, too.  FYI, November 15 is America Recycles Day.  [Clipart © Jupiter Images.]

The Aldine Branch Library Recycles

As a fund-raiser, the Aldine Branch Library has increased our paper recycling efforts over that last few months. Before we began this campaign, the branch and our customers were averaging just over a half of a ton of paper collection a month. Now we are averaging almost two tons a month! We can’t thank customers enough for stepping up for their community. Our goal is to collect four tons of recyclable paper every month and we know we can do it with your help.
