UPDATE: West University Branch Renovations

The holidays and severe weather across the country have delayed construction materials needed to complete safety and ADA compliance renovations at West University Branch Library. The City of West University Place is still optimistic that the library will reopen this spring.

Until then, you can continue to return HCPL materials and pick up holds at Bellaire City Library, or any other HCPL location.

Galena Park Library Reopens July 9th

Galena Park Branch Library exteriorHCPL is pleased to announce that the renovation of Galena Park Branch Library is nearly complete, and the library will reopen on Monday, July 9 at 10:00 a.m.  The extensive, grant-funded renovations, that include new paint, carpet and furniture, as well as a spacious, new computer lab, are the first undertaken since the library opened in 1997.

HCPL thanks you for your patience during the construction process and assure you that these improvements will not only make your library-going experience more pleasant, but will also translate to an even higher level of service to our customers and the community at large. The new computer lab will also allow us to continue to expand the number and variety of free computer classes we offer.

Progress on New Computer Lab

Entrance to Computer LabWe're getting closer and closer to finishing the renovations at the Galena Park Library.  Check out the entrance to the new computer lab.  The sliding glass doors look very Star Trek, don't you think?

Progress Report: Galena Park Branch Library Renovations.

Galena Park Computer Lab exteriorThe grant-funded renovations on the Galena Park Branch Library are well underway. The exterior of the library's new computer lab is very nearly complete and work on the lab's interior is underway. The carpeting and painting in the existing building is complete. The new furniture for the entire library will come soon after interior work is finished.

These much-needed improvements are the first undertaken on the library since it opened in 1996, and will not only make the library-going experience more pleasant; it will allow us to provide better service, including more and bigger free computer training classes.

New Carpet in the Library

New carpetWe're getting closer to the end of our renovation project!  Check out our new carpeting.  It features lots of colors and complements our new wall color very nicely!  Your Galena Park library will be open soon.  In the meantime, don't forget that the Summer Reading Program for kids, teens and adults will begin on June 4th.  You will be able to sign up at any Harris County Library or online at the library website.

New color on the walls!

It's sunny outside and sunny inside at Galena Park!  Our walls are being painted a bright and happy yellow.  The wall behind our circulation desk and the wall in the children's department will stand out now that they are a new color.  We can't wait for you to see your library, but don't forget you can always visit our other library branches like our Jacinto City and North Channel branches.

New outside wall for computer lab

Our renovations are moving along!  The outside of our new computer lab is almost complete with the brick wall almost complete.  Soon it will be ready to start work on the inside.  Don't forget to visit us at our other Harris County branches while we wait for our renovations to be completed!

Inside the computer lab

Last week we showed  you a picture of the outside of our new computer lab.  Today, we have a photograph tracking the progress inside our new computer lab.  It's mostly just wood framing now, but soon it will full of new computers for your use!  Don't forget that while Galena Park library is closed you can visit any other Harris County Library branch, such as our Jacinto City or North Channel branches.

One roof up, one ceiling down

Renovations continue at the Galena Park Library.  As you can see, the roof is taking shape on our new computer lab.  And it's just in time with all the wet weather we've been having!  While a new room goes up, an old ceiling comes down.  You can see in the photo of our front entryway that we are now missing our old ceiling tiles.  Coming soon, new ceiling tiles!  Check back to catch up on our progress, and don't forget to visit our other library branches in Jacinto City or our North Channel Branch on Wallisville Road.

Jacinto City Branch Library Reopening Ceremony: March 21, 2012

Jacinto City Branch Library exteriorIn truth, the library is already open for business, but we want everyone to come see our new look, so Harris County Precinct 2 Commissioner Jack Morman and Harris County Public Library invite you to celebrate the official reopening of Jacinto City Branch Library on March 21, 2012 at 10:30 AM.

The library, which is a cooperative undertaking of Harris County and the Jacinto City municipal government, has undergone extensive remodeling including new carpeting, paint and furnishings, as well as the addition of a new much-needed public meeting room. The renovations and expansion, funded with a federal grant, are the first since the library moved to the building in 1992.
