Senior Fun in Katy

Bus TripLast year the Katy Library got a new neighbor down the street: the Fussell Senior Citizen Building.  Check out their website for a calendar FULL of fun and activities.

Many Adult Activities at the Library

Wow!  I was just looking at the calendar and we sure have a lot going on at Maud Marks over the next week!

Do you want to help out in the community?  On Saturday we have an English as a Second Language tutor training session starting at 9 AM.  In just 4 hours, we'll prepare you to teach adults from various countries English.  You don't even have to speak another language to help out; in fact, we prefer that you don't!  All we ask of you is a commitment of 1 1/2 hours per week through May.  Just think how rewarding it will be to help someone acclimate to life here in the Katy area!

Session IV on the Girl Scout Express!

Are you an older Girl Scout attempting to complete Girl Scout Journeys?  The Clear Lake City - County Freeman Branch Library continues “Girl Scout Express!” designed for older Girl Scouts and Girl Scout Leaders with busy schedules. On Thursday, October 11th,  written guides for Girl Scout Journeys will be available via email and Google Drive. Sessions I, II, III, and IV are here for the "aMAZE" (Cadettes) and "Sow What?" (Seniors).

This program is made possible by support of the Friends of Freeman Library.

Learn Something New

OK, have you ever felt like things are just moving too fast and there isn't time to learn everything you need to know?  Fear not, the Thomas A. Glazier Senior Education Center is here to the rescue.  Although they offer mostly computer classes, you can actually go there to learn much more than just that.  Learn about Medicare or wills.  Take a knitting class or catch a classic movie.  The senior education center has it all!

Want to learn more?  Come by the library next Tuesday at 2 PM and find out all about the educational possibilities at Glazier.  The only requirements for becoming a student there are that you must be 55+ and a resident of Harris County. You can register for their services right here at the library.

Senior Moments: Researching on Medline Plus

Are you interested in learning more about reliable medical information available for free on the internet? The Maud Marks Library will be hosting a special class for seniors and mature adults about finding consumer medical information on MedlinePlus, the government’s medical website. Seating is extremely limited. Pre-registration is required.

Computer Classes @ Your Library

There is just so much going on at the Maud Marks Library right now.  Did you know that we can teach you how to search the Internet for information?  Just sign up for our Basic Internet class on Saturday August 20 at 10 AM.  More interested in finding those illusive ancestors?  We have a Genealogy Online class coming up on Tuesday, August 23 @ 1 PM.

If computer classes aren't your thing, we are still in the midst of our latest Job Search Seminar from 10 AM to noon.  On Monday, August 22 we will be discussing networking and Monday, August 29 we will be practicing interviewing skills.

So Mysterious!

Did you know that the Maud Marks Library has added a NEW book club for the summer.  Our mystery book club will be meeting on Monday, July 18 at 2 PM.  We will be discussing Grave Goods the third in the Mistress in the Art of Death series by Ariana Franklin.  Everyone is invited to join us for a discussion of this facinating and fun book.  There are extra copies behind the customer service desk.  And don't worry, you have plenty of time to read the book.  It's a really fast read!  Then, don't forget to join us again on August 8 as we discuss Dog On It by Spencer Quinn.
