Yes, they made a difference!

On the morning of Wednesday, October 23rd, fifteen students from Yes Prep North Central came to the Aldine Library for a service work opportunity. They broke into groups and thoroughly cleaned the inside of the library building. Outside, students picked up trash. When they were all done, the building looked fantastic! Thank you Yes Prep for making a difference at the Aldine Library!

The AMNH is Looking for Young Naturalists

Students, are you interested in nature? If so, then the American Museum of Natural History (AMNH) is holding a competition for students in grades 7-12 that could be for you. Students can now submit scientific inquiries for consideration for the Young Naturalist Awards 2010. Winners receive cash awards, an expense-paid trip to the AMNH in New York City, and publication of essay.

The deadline for research essays is March 1, 2010. Don’t hesitate to ask the Aldine Branch Library if you have any questions. Plus, we can help you look for any other competitions that may fit your interests.

Volunteers are lifesavers!

Kingwood Branch is blessed with wonderful volunteers. We even categorize them – regular, year-round volunteers, summer volunteers, special occasion volunteers. They are all great and we couldn’t provide the service we do without them.

The schools are now requiring service hours for all various organizations – student council, sports teams, and after-school clubs. We benefit from this excellent requirement; and through us the community benefits. It is very heartening to see so many young people giving back to the community. I just wish it had been in place when my boys were in school. What a foundation for a life-long habit of service.
These students are just terrific and we can’t thank them enough!
