Make a Big Difference in a Child's Life. Be a Book Buddy.

Do you enjoy working with children? Do you want to make a difference in a child's life? Then volunteer for HCPL's Book Buddies!

Book Buddies is a free program that brings children and volunteers (adults or teens) together to share the joy of reading. It pairs trained volunteers (Big Buddies) with children in Kindergarten through 3rd grades (Little Buddies). For 12 weeks, the Buddies meet once a week for 45 minutes of shared reading.

A Big Thanks for a Thankless Job

On any list of onerous tasks, preparing a tax return is bound to be near the top. If for no other reason than that, we owe a big thank you to the good people of AARP Tax Aide who, every February, set up shop at several HCPL branches to give tax help to anyone who walks through the door and asks. The operative word there is “give.” They give their time, their expertise and their effort free of charge, and we, at HCPL, are grateful to them.

Volunteer @ Your Library

In April, President Obama signed the Edward M. Kennedy Serve America Act which, for the first time, officially recognizes today, September 11, as a National Day of Service and Remembrance. One of the best ways to honor this day is to volunteer at your local library. Want to know how?
