Book Hunters in Brief #154: Snow Fantasy

Like ice cream for breakfast, a pet boa constrictor, and face tattoos, snow sounds great in theory, but if you ask folks who have to face the stuff day in-day out, they have a very different take on it. This week, Book Hunters in Brief gives you and your young ones a chance to enjoy some winter wonderlands in the best possible way: from a nice, warm sofa with cups of hot cocoa. Enjoy!

Book Hunters in Brief #52: Winter is Coming.

Winter is coming.

But this being the Texas Gulf Coast, winter is an intermittent proposition. This week HCPL's award-winning Book Hunters offer some books that will put a little nip in the air--even if it is only fictional.

Frosty Tales

I just checked the weather and it is currently 75°F in Houston. Anyone else, wanting to feel the brisk winter air?  Melt away our warm winter weather by picking out a few of these frosty tales.

The Adventures of a South Pole Pig

Snuggle Up with a Good Book

The weather is going to be bitter cold this weekend; sounds like a perfect excuse to snuggle up with your little ones and enjoy a good book

 Me Too! Valeri Gorbachev.

Warmth and humor fill the snowy day adventures of two friends, a bear and a chipmunk, who, despite their physical differences, share work and play and true companionship.

It's Chilly Out There

The temperature has dropped and it will be cooler for the next several days.  So, get your comforter, crawl into bed and read a few of these chilly tales.

Baby, It's Cold Outside

deep kiss of winterOkay, it's actually been kind of cold for a couple of days in Houston, Texas and many of us have been enjoying the chill before we start wearing our shorts again.  I think that people who have always lived in warm climates romanticize snow and wintry temperatures, with pictures of fireplaces, snowmen and hot chocolate dancing in our heads, instead of snow tires, shovels and bursting pipes.  While safely ensconced in our temperate zone, what's the harm in that?

Book an Adventure @ the Library

One of the great things about becoming a reader is that you have the ability to go anywhere, be anyone and learn anything you desire.

This week I have booked readers on a trip to discover lands far from Texas. You better dress warm because here the  frigid temperatures have dipped well below freezing and you are in a race against time.

Elementary Reads

Winter Books and More

I was born and raised in Colorado, so I’ve experienced more than my share of frigid winters, and even a few major blizzards.
