Make ladybugs. Large black round shape for body, red semi circles for wings. Black 3/4" dots for spots on wings. Two white 3/4" dots with small black dots in center for eyes.
Make butterflies out of coffee filters and pipe cleaners. Accordian fold two coffee filters, place them side by side, wrap 1/2 of a pipe cleaner around the center, excess ends will be antenae. Fan out the "wings". Color wings with markers, food coloring or crayons.
Use a butterfly puppet with The Very Hungry Caterpillar and Buzz, buzz, buzz went the Bumblebee.
Ask children to participate when you read:
Old Black Fly by having them help you Shoo the fly away.
Buzz, buzz, buzz went the bumblebee have the children say "Buzz off" with you.
How many bugs in a box? Have children "guess" how many bugs are in the boxes. They will catch on quick as a wink!
