Little Gorilla by:Ruth Bornstein
All of the animals in the forest loved little Gorilla. Little Gorilla grew to be a very large gorilla, who was insecure about what the other animals would think of him. Fortunately, all of the animals sang happy birthday to Little Gorilla and loved him still.

Mouse?s Birthday by:Jane Yolen
The Farmer and each of the barnyard animals bring little mouse a birthday present. They somehow manage to fit into his house, but when mouse blows out the candles, the house explodes, giving mouse a brand new house the exact dimensions of the surrounding barn!
(This would make an excellent skit, using a cardboard box for the house and puppets or stuffed animals for the characters.)

The Fairytale Cake by:Mark Sperring
A giant birthday cake is prepared, transported and presented by fairytale/nursery-rhyme characters to a boy who just turned four years old. This is a great story for toddlers because the illustrations are colorful and active, and the story text is short, rhythmic and rhymed.

Three Birthday Candles
Three birthday candles lit my cake
So I blew all about till one went out!
Two birthday candles lit my cake
So I blew all about till one went out!
One birthday candle lit my cake
So I blew all about till one went out!
No birthday candles lit my cake
So I took a piece and ate, ate, ate!
(After each section, imitate the way a little child blows out candles, and then after the last section pretend to gobble up a gigantic piece of cake.)

Pat-A-Cake
Pat-a-cake, pat-a-cake, baker?s man,
Bake me a cake as fast as you can,
Roll it and pat it and mark it with a B.
Put it in the oven for baby and me!
(This is a fun rhyme for toddlers because most will already know the words and actions, and so you can play a game by going faster and faster to see who can keep up!)

Notes
|
Another song that can be used is the traditional Happy Birthday song. If it is the actual birthday of a child there, then everyone can sing to him or her, but if not, then everyone can pretend that it is their own birthdays and sing to each other.
